Heat Intolerance: Symptom of Neuropathy?

Posted by kyc117 @kyc117, Sep 7, 2020

So I am waiting to get my diagnosis, but does anyone else feel odd after being out in the heat for a period of time? I love gardening this weekend was watering for about 20 minutes in the sun. I just felt weird afterwards, symptoms I can't explain. Sweat will just roll down my face, this never happened with me before.I love to take hot showers and one time I felt somewhat ill afterwards. I just feel I can't be out in the heat anymore.

To all my friends on Connect:

It is just as healthy to take a step back, a step away, a breather from this wonderful place we call Connect, than it is to be immersed. I myself have needed to as others problems weigh heavily on me, in addition to my own.

Being involved with such an important group brings comfort, security and trust which people may not find elsewhere... I know this to be true for myself. However, I also have gotten better at realizing and being honest with myself when I physically and/or mentally cant keep up.

Connect will be here waiting for you...be kind to yourself.

My best,
Rachel

Amen sister! Interesting to me that so many of us who are afflicted so intensely, and those affected by our loved one's afflictions, specially care-givers, share such deep compassion for and understanding with one another. We can relate to the pain loss of quality of life whatever that may be for each of us. My therapist said it is a loss.

There are no words to adequately describe how much it means to me to have found people who get it; who CAN relate! There's no better support than you precious people here on Connect.

I thank God for gifting you into my life. My heart swells with deep gratitude and appreciation for each one of you!

Thank you!! Warmest regards, Sunnyflower. 😊🤗

I know that feeling VERY well ladies. I had it for much of the time during my youth and young adulthood. I was a lost little puppy until age 23. My dear Bustrbrwn, I did not even know the meaning of the word love before then. It makes for a very sad existence. My dear, you do matter. It has nothing to do with me, it has nothing to do with Sunny, or anyone. You matter, and I mean BIG matter. Period. Your friend, Hank

How come every other post I write sounds like a sermon. Sorry, I don't seem to know how to express myself otherwise.

Agree with what Hank said here bustrbrwn. And Hank, I thought my posts seem like sermons LOL! Made me chuckle to see you do too! BTW, off subject, do you know how to access emotiocons on a MS Surface Tablet? Boy do I struggle w/ technology. I get them easily on my Samsung Galaxy 10 note phone. But Mildred, my tablet, isn't cooperating! I'm such an expressive person and really want to have them. I had figured a way and now it stopped working. Mmmmmmm. Best, Sunnyflower

@avmcbellar I use to have a big vegetable garden when married . Our son was allergic to dyes so taught myself how to can . It was nice in winter just went to cellar and got something and better for you . He still is a vegetarian . Didn't enjoy driving in it either as my work took me to different places. So nice to meet you . Take care

@lioness Nothing like growing your own veggies. Are you able to grow a smaller garden? I grow a few herbs and veggies but very small. I never learned to can, froze vegetables instead. We had a huge freezer to grab what we needed. I agree it was nice and much better for you. “Organic” food was not popular at the grocery store just yet. Today, there are many options available for foods. I am sure your son finds foods with dyes derived from vegetables. I never bought foods or candy with artificial dyes and didn’t feed them to my family either. As a kid I researched the effects artificial dyes had on people, specifically red#40....all negative comments. So it was a good thing your son was allergic. For over 40 years I elected to eat a vegetarian diet except for the occasional fish. Good for him. When done right, it can be a much healthier diet. Glad to have met you too. I see your interests are in holistic healing, is that right? I will certainly ask your opinion for remedies. Take care. Wish you well. Toni

I can't tag everyone in this discussion, but reading through the past 2 days' posts, I thought of a couple of things I might add.

Interesting that autonomic neuropathy can cause both excessive sweating and no sweating. I'm in the latter group. I have to stop for lots of breaks when I'm working outside, and always have water and crystal light with me. When it was 100 a week ago, I came in the house, feeling really hot, but my skin was dry.

I like to take showers between hot and warm. If the water's hot, I don't feel it hitting my feet because they're numb. Another thing to be aware of.

Was it in this discussion that @sunnyflower and others talked about not being able to respond to as many messages as we'd like. I'm 2 days behind, and I counted 240 messages in my inbox! No way to respond to them all, even though I'm retired.

@kyc117 and all ~ I'm sorry to hear of your heat struggles. Here's my 2 cents on heat intolerance. This was the first summer in my life that I was unable to sit in the sun and tan! Monumental. It's for the best obviously, regarding preservation of my skin but, heat intolerance is what prevented me from doing so. I had a couple of episodes where even sitting on my patio a bit too long felt like an iron was on my scalp burning me. It was not a pleasant feeling. Also, use of the oven or grill has changed regarding how my skin, mainly face, feels being too close to the heat. If I'm not careful, my face will feel dry and overheated like a bad sunburn. This started a few years back with my lips having a reaction in the sun. I was slow and steady on becoming B12 deficient and I now believe this was a sign of its decline in my body. I also do not do well in constant heat, such as, if I'm moving around outside, watering flowers or weeding. I can become overheated quite easily, get a beat red face, feel sick and faint. It takes me a bit to come down from this with airconditioing, cold water and rest. I'm not what I used to be, that's for sure, and it plain old sucks! I began a very similar discussion a few months ago if anyone wants to seek it out for further opinions and experiences. I will go try to find it now.
Best to all,
Rachel

...a couple more examples on heat. The heat of the blow dryer now is a challenge. I mostly let my hair air dry as it's just not worth the overheating. Although I can take a warm to hot shower, which is therapeutic to my body, I sweat afterwards and my body temp takes time to acclimate back to normal. I discovered I could no longer enjoy our hot tub for this reason as well. 🙁
