When someone w/dementia experiences a traumatic brain injury (TBI)

I am wondering in a person in their 80s with progressive dementia/alzheimers can ever recover from a pretty significant brain injury. ??

We got him moved. The people there are not very 'warm and fuzzy'! I was at the hospital for 10 minutes and I felt more compassion. Everyone is soo up in arms regarding this COVID, they forget about the patient!!
He smiled a little when he saw me❤😪 but he is deteriorating. He was a grand man!!

The hospice center is already not taking care of my dad! They told us that they would check on him about every 15- 20 minutes due to him randomly wanting to get up and NO BED ALARM! They hadn't checked on him in over 2 hours!!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS!?

When my father-in-law had a significant stroke, we had this problem as well. He wasn't in a fit condition to get up but didn't want to stay in bed. He would even get aggressive sometimes (which is absolutely not his normal temperament). If you can, rotate having family members stay with him as much as you can, since having someone familiar often helps keep people calmer. Also, I don't know if Medicare will pay for it since he is in hospice, but you can ask about the possibility of a sitter who would stay with him full-time. They did that for my FIL and it was still a challenge because he wouldn't listen to the sitter, but at least we knew that there was someone there who would call for help if he did try to get up. Hugs to you from Colorado; I know it's a difficult time.

I am so sorry you’re going through this. I experienced this same thing with my dad. He had told us years before that he didn’t want extra special things done. Now would be the best time for you and your siblings and mother to talk about what your dad wants and who will speak for him because he can’t. My mother had been named as his medical power of attorney but she asked me to talk to doctors and make decisions (I’m an oncology nurse so could understand what the doctors said). The very best thing for your mother is that all the siblings agree so there is no stress and arguments. I wish you much luck and love. Becky
