Taking probiotics after liver transplant

@bosco17 Hi we are not medical experts and questions like this you should run by your transplant team. I do know there are times they are ok but everyone can be different. So even when I am proscribed something from another doctor from my transplant team i always check with them first before taking. Your pharmacist is also a great source to help with drug combinations. Usually i know when a question like this comes up even the Doctors will sometimes check with a Pharmacist. Of your transplant was at a mayo facility the pharmacy at Mayo is an even better resource since they are aware of special issues with the transplant drugs. I hope that helps.

All the Medical experts follow PROTOCOLS and get treated well by drug companies.. They wont recognize alternative methods or herbs. Let me ask you! Whats happened to the promises of STEMM CELL TREATMENTS? Ill tell you-- The drug companies are suppressing it so they can make money selling their toxic drugs that cure one thing and damage 4 others. Eyes wide open!!!!!!

I begged to get off cyclosporine for years cause it was destroying my kidneys. Told "oh no" for years !!! Guess what stopped cyclosporine 4 yrs ago and no rejection. I was once told by a very famous Dr. " You dont need immunosuppressats after 10 yrs post transplant, but the drugs make Drs and drug companies alot of money! Keeping us in the dark.

I received a liver and a kidney transplant in 2009. I take both cellcept and tacrolimus and I accept that I will need them for life, unless/until scientific research proves otherwise. I follow a routine lab schedule, and when my labs show abnormal ranges, my dosages are adjusted.

I have only read of identical twins (living kidney donation) not requiring immunosuppressant meds.
@bosco17, What organ did you transplant? Was it from a closely related individual? Would you please share with us where you found this information?

This is true for the most part, they don't like natural methods, they say they are not approved ,by the FDA. I've seen alternative medicine work, it has been suppressed but some cancer centers have started using alternative methods, stem cell is very complicated, you don't hear much about ti today, I know a transplant surgeon in Texas, who works in that is working with them, he helped with on my transplant in 98 and 2000. I do agree somewhat that they suppress, the natural, but it is less than previous years.

Liver TX 2010 , Im down to Cellcept 500mg morning--250mg nite. Not a family member, my liver came from someone I didnt Know,but GOD Bless them. The info came from Univ of Fl but I wont tell you the Dr.s name . Im slowly weaning down with no rejection .

If the govt put as much money into it as they do to buy nuclear weapons, we would be doing amazing things by now --eg: like growing organs

@bosco17, I can understand your wish to be free of medication. I agree with @ca426 that major health institutions and more and more clinicians and researchers are taking note of complementary and alternative medicines, more commonly referred to as integrative medicine. Stem cell treatments still hold much hope. With hope comes a lot of hype too. Research takes time to not only prove that something works but also to test the efficacy and safety. Stem cell research is a new frontier. @rosemarya @bosco17 I read at some point that some people have stopped taking their immunosuppressants due to the expense. Of those people some were fine, some were not. It's a risk to stop taking them, and one I am not willing to take. Even taking immunosuppressants there are cases of people experiencing rejection years after having a transplant. Generally, rejection can be handled successfully by a transplant team but the odds may not be as much in their favor if they have been off their immunosuppressants for long I suspect.
I do realize that some doctors get rich off of stipends from drug companies but I know for a fact that not all do. A few years ago the local paper here published a list of all of the doctors in the city and how much they had made from drug companies! Some had made quite a bit, but there were many who made virtually nothing. Not all doctors are "on the take".
