Bone marrow transplants for CMML
My son at 39 was just diagnosed with CMML and will be coming to Mayo for 4 months to prepare for and receive it. His dad and I will be his caregivers at the Hope House while he is there. Who had been through this?

Hi @javajude that must be so heartbreaking and nerve-wracking for you and your son as you prepare. How is your son feeling? What did you doctor's give your son to prepare?
@javajude, I'd like to introduce you to @jeaniecm who will also be going to Mayo soon to accompany her husband who will be having a stem cell transplant. She started this discussion:

Thanks for the introduction. I just want to clarify, I will be having the SCT. My husband will be accompanying me as my caretaker.
Thanks for clarifying, Jeanie. May I ask what type of cancer you are getting the transplant for? Will it be autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation?
Multiple Myeloma My SCT will be autologous.

Hi @javajude, I thought I would check in. Are you at Mayo Clinic now for the 4 month period with your son while he prepares and receives a bone marrow transplant? How are you? How's he doing?
My husband had a stem cell transplant almost 8 years ago, for AML flt3. What would you like to know? Is he getting his own cells?
Although getting in remission is the same process. Your son's recovery will be a lot faster, and fewer complications, due to getting his own stem cells.
I have had both an Auto and Allo SCT, but not bone marrow. I can tell you about my experiences if you'd like. Which kind is your son getting? He's lucky to have his parents as caregivers.
