Repatha as a treatment for high HDL Cholesterol

Posted by sue225 @sue225, May 7, 2019

Think I have posted this before but no feedback as of yet. Very interested in hearing from people who are on Repatha (evoculomab) to treat their high LDL levels. I am one of those patients.

Sue225: I've been on it for about 3 months without incident. Very convenient and my LDL dropped to 50. (below 70 required because of an event.) Triglycerides were 47. No more walking the line and trying to get it down a few more points. Best wishes. Repatha takes good care of you with convient calls to RN's and scheduled notices for taking the medication.

Thanks. I just saw the endocrinologist who prescribed Repatha. We use different measurements in Canada. However, 5 months later, my LDL is down by 50%. For any Canadians reading this it was, 6.18 (I know, scary high) and is now 3.26. (Total number is 6.07).
The doctor told me I will stay on this until something else comes along.
Not a lot of people are on it here. It is very expensive. My husband still has a company private plan so at the present time, I have coverage.
There arent enough positive stories on this site. So, thankyou for sharing. Its important for those searching for answers to their health problems not to be scared of conventional medicine. So again, thankyou.

I have heard of "Crestor" which is a statin. In fact, I took it at one time. However, I am one of those patients who can't tolerate statins.
My best friend's husband is a cardiologist and he had been on a statin for many years.

REPLY

Repatha is not a statin. It's other name is evolocumab. It is a biologic. It is given by injection every two weeks.

REPLY

@sue225 But it lowers your cholesterol? If the Creators doesn't I,'ll ask my Dr about it then

@sue225- I have been on statins for 15 years and I have tolerated some better then others and all seemed to have lower my cholesterol, but on my last trip to the Mayo in Scottedale, AZ. my cardiologist suggested I switch to Rosuvastatin (generic form of Crestor). I had been on 40 ml. of all the others prior, but he suggested to start with 20 ml and after 6 months all my numbers were way better. The one he was most wanting to drop was the LDL(L for lousy). It went from 86 to 68 in that time period. Jim @thankful

It is wonderful and a relief when drugs do what they are designed to do and you can tolerate the medication.
As for me, Repatha seems to be doing the trick.
