@chris, welcome to Mayo Connect. I'd like to ask you a few questions. Who told you that ground glass isn't dangerous? Have you recently been diagnosed with lung cancer? Do you have symptoms at all?
Ground glass is an appearance on a CT of a cluster of lung cells that have changed. It can be, and often is, a precusor to lung cancer. Usually adenocarcinoma of the lung. I do not know if this type of cell change shows up anywhere else.

i was just told that it has been seen in a few er ct chest scans at mayo and that no further action is needed

REPLY

But who told you? A nurse? Technician, doctor?
What symptoms did you have that sent you to Mayo?

REPLY

i think i was having chest pain so they er ordered a ct chest scan. its been seen on several ct chest scans over the months , the er dr as well as the final report said no follow up needed reguarding it even tho i have gone and had a few follow up scans done on my own

REPLY

Chris..I would contact you PCP and get a referral to a lung surgeon or pulmonologist. Have specialists take a close look at the scans themselves. Then you will be reassured of what you are dealing with.
Did you have any blood work done to see if your heart is involved?

REPLY

yes they did blood work and everything there at the Mayo Er. On the final report it said no further follow up needed per the radiologist as well as I spoke with the Er Dr and she said it's nothing. But as I stated I did go and have another follow up CT scan done on my own.

REPLY

i appreciate you being concerned, in my mind i wanna get it scanned every 6 months unless any other issues arrise but the er dr said you dont need it and its documented , but i still will follow up on it

REPLY

Chris..I agree, it needs to be followed. Ground glass can change unexpectedly. Does your private Dr agree?
Please let me know how you fare. Documented scans are a good baseline.

REPLY

no he said mayo is the best of the best they have a very big reputation to uphold and for them to give me a printed document saying no follow up needed then if it turned into more they would be held liable so i cant imagine they would put themself on the line in that way

REPLY

Oh, I see. I misunderstood. Sorry. Mayo Clinic is definitely one of the best. I'm on the east coast and go to MGH. Will you just go to the ER in 6 months?
