Hi Lisa @techi, Starting a discussion is still done the same way by scrolling to the top of the window, clicking on the Group discussion name you are in and then clicking the Start a Discussion button. Yes, when you want to make sure a member receives an email notification you use the @ sign and his member name. The old text is not going away. The newest change to Connect was hopefully to make it easier to follow a conversation and make the posts a flat view that you can sort oldest to newest or newest to oldest. What's really nice now is when you see a post that you have not been following, it's easier to see the context and flow because it provides a link at the top of the post to let you know who the person was replying to in their post.

Hopefully it's helping members follow a conversation easier but it's like anything when there is a change. It might take a little time to get used to it.

John

Hi Merry @merpreb, if I remember correctly the discussions were sequential by post until someone replied to a post in the middle of the discussion. Then that post was a newer date but a reply to an older post. Multiple that by a lot of different replies to different posts in a discussion and it made it sometimes difficult to follow a discussion. The change was that now you sort the discussion by selecting Newest to Oldest or Oldest to Newest at the top of the discussion which will give you an ascending or descending "flat" view of the discussion so that you see them in order. When someone is replying to a post there is the "show post" link to show you the post that the person was replying to. @colleenyoung can probably describe it better but flat is an old school term that I probably remember from a previous life working with programmers ☺

Thanks John! I was just interested in the term.

Is there a way to get to the first unread post on a topic I'm following?

If something is many pages long, clicking on the last might pass where I left off, Many other forums have this feature, sometimes it's in a spot I don't know to click.

If so please let me know.

If not, how to I make a suggestion to the administrators?

Thanks,
Bob

Hi @bobbyboomer, I moved your message to this discussion to explain the feature that, in part, responds to your request. You can view the messages in chronological order (Oldest to Newest) or you can choose to see the most recent messages first by selecting Newest to Oldest. While this doesn't take you automatically to the first unread message, it helps to see the most recent posts. This is especially helpful for long discussion threads.

Please see the original post in this discussion to see images and a description of how to use this feature.

OK, where do I start??????

I clicked my profile and can't find how to sort from newest to oldest. On something that gets a lot of posts, finding where I left off is time consuming and a bit of a PITA.

BTW, a link to "First Unread" like so many other forums would be very helpful.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bobby,
I agree with you. I have submitted the "First Unread" feature to the developers. It would be very useful.

In your profile, you will only see your activity or posts. To use the newest to oldest feature, go to a discussion thread that you're interested in. For example, in this long discussion in the Hearing Loss group
- How does hearing loss change you? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/how-does-hearing-loss-change-you/

Can you see the option to choose Newest to Oldest?

@bobbyboomer Bob, welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. When you go to a discussion, look at the start of the discussion, the one that starts it all in a light blue box. Below that initial post, there is a light gray bar that shows you on the right side "oldest to newest" with a drop down arrow. Expand that and you will see the option to sort the order of the posts to "newest to oldest". Choose that and the order will change. It won't stay like that, so next time you come back you change it again. Hope this helps! I don't know that this forum has the capabilities to show each person the posts they as an individual, have not read.
