Type 1 Surprise

Posted by devanab5 @devanab5, Aug 12, 2018

Hi, does anyone on here talk about type 1? I am only seeing stuff about type 2.

Hello @devanab5

Yes, I do recall seeing several members of Connect discuss Type I diabetes. Here is a link to one discussion, https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/glucophase-for-type-1/
and https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/the-depression-and-mood-swings-with-type-1-diabetes/ Please feel free to read the posts in each discussion and if you find a topic or a post interesting please feel free to hit "Reply" and ask a question of the person who posted.

Here is some general information about Type I Diabetes from Mayo Clinic's website, https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/type-1-diabetes/symptoms-causes/syc-20353011

@devanab5 Since you wanted to discuss Type I Diabetes, do you have any specific questions about it? If so, please share your questions as you are comfortable doing so. Can I assume that you are the patient with Type I Diabetes or are you asking for a friend or family member? Once again, please share only as you are comfortable doing so.

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Have had Type 1 for 58 years. Treated at Mayo when I was two. How can I help?

Hello @dgk53590 and welcome to Mayo Connect.

Thank you for offering to join the discussion about Type I Diabetes. @devanab5 was seeking some support and will probably post sometime soon.

If you care to share a little about your Type I Diabetes, could you tell us how you have managed your sugar levels and what has been the most challenging for you as a lifelong diabetic? Is there anything that you have learned that was particularly helpful to you?

Hi, I have type1and I want to no why the bottom of my feet feels like I'm walking rocks all on the top of my feet. Is there anything I can do.

Just wanted to welcome you, @dgk53590, and also @stephania157, to Mayo Clinic Connect.

That sounds very uncomfortable to be feeling like you are walking on rocks, @stephania157. Ouch. Something you may want to take a look at is the Complications section in this Mayo Clinic information on Type I diabetes, to see if any of this sounds like what you are experiencing. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/type-1-diabetes/symptoms-causes/syc-20353011

Hoping maybe @dgk53590 or @devanab5 may have some thoughts on this walking on rocks sensation? I also thought that perhaps @johnbishop may have some insights.

@stephania157 - when were you diagnosed with Type I diabetes?

@stephania157

Let me add my welcome to Lisa's for joining Mayo Clinic Connect. I am glad that you posted your question!

Your symptoms do sound very uncomfortable. How long have you had this? If these are new symptoms that have not been discussed with your doctor, it would be good to call the office and see if they can offer you any suggestions or help.

I hope that you are able to get some relief.

@dgk53590 and @stephania157 , I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with Lisa @lisalucier and others. Diabetic neuropathy can cause numbness and tingling in the feet along with pain. I'm not sure about the feeling like you are walking on rocks. I did find some information on Mayo Clinic's website that may help point you in the right direction, both mention the feeling of walking on pebbles:

Morton's neuroma:

Metatarsalgia
-- https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/metatarsalgia/symptoms-causes/syc-20354790

It is important when you have diabetes to take good care of your feet. You might find the following discussion on Connect helpful also:

@dgk53590 and @stephania157 have you had a chance to talk to your doctor about the pain in your feet?

Hi my son was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes is there anything that can reverse this?

Hello @santina, Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry to hear that your son has type 1 diabetes but I'm glad you found Connect. It's a great place to meet others with similar health problems and learn what they are doing for treatments. I don't have diabetes but have always been told by my doctors that I am pre-diabetic. I'm hoping other members will add suggestions for you but while you wait you might want to see the following discussions:

I'm tagging @dawn_giacabazi, @kdubois and @lisalucier to see if they have any suggestions.

@santina after your son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes did his doctors come up with a treatment plan?
