@cindylb What brand CBD oil do you use?

stacyt - Where I live in Colorado there are so many companies preparing and selling CBD it's really hard to name a 'brand'. My husband uses a particular medical marijuana facility and they manufacture their own products. He has a prescription for those products and they are only available to card holders. I personally only use CBD oil via a vape pen. My personal requirements in any vape pen or oil is that it is free of propolyene glycol because I have allergic reactions to it (it's in everything it seems but is especially problematic for me in oils and vaping). I also look for organic and chemical free. It doesn't make sense to use a natural product to help me if it's full of other potentially dangerous chemicals. So the vape device I use has CBD oil at 250 mg per dose, vegetable glycerine (organically sourced) and no other ingredients. I am using a very small amount of CBD at present for reduction of inflammation, to help me sleep and hopefully for some additional hope of keeping my breast cancer from recurring. I am personally not a fan of the effects of THC in cannabis. If my cancer recurs I would certainly use it but at present the THC portion actually makes me feel worse (paranoid, anxious) but my husband uses both CBD and THC for his cancer diagnosis with no side effects.

So helpful, @cindylb, that you listed your specific criteria of how to evaluate CBD and THC products rather than naming a particular brand. There are so many out there and each brand has multiple products. As this industry is still in its infancy and there is little to no regulation, it is important that each person do their research and due diligence to understand the products and how they work for them.

Did you and your husband work with a medical professional to help sort through everything?

Hello Collen!
My husband's oncologist recommended the cannabis products and gave him his medical marijuana certificate/card BUT they don't know much about it and I think feel uncomfortable discussing it in detail (not their field of expertise). The clinic where my husband gets his CBD/THC are very knowledgeable and make recommendations and are licensed by the state as a medical marijuana facility only (no recreational sales). I am not even allowed in the building with him. It's highly regulated. My husband says they have extensive knowledge and have been very helpful. He shares that information with me and also we both do a lot of research and due diligence (as much as we can given the real lack of research). I know there are homeopathic doctors that help patients with this and we have consulted with one we know well who has helped us with nutrition and supplements in the past, but it's still really up to each patient to wade through the information at this point.

joangma - My husband uses multiple products - gummies, oil and vaping. Both the gummies and vaping have both THC and CBD. He only uses those at night and he uses the CBD off and on throughout the day. He is using it not only for cancer but also inflammation from peripheral neuropathy in his feet (due to an accident many years ago). I don't the actual dosages, but I will ask him again and try to get back to you. Wish I could be more specific but it's been a bit of an experiment so far.

Good morning @joangma. Directions for CBD oil: Shake the bottle well. I also squeeze the top of the dropper a few times to make sure that everything is well mixed. Place a dropper full under your tongue and hold for 30-90 seconds, or until it is dry under your tongue. Then swallow. I actually hold my tongue up during this time.

thank you so much, I have been looking for some time for a little help with this cbd oil treatment.

@joangma- It's referred to as a tincture. "A tincture is a concentrated liquid herbal extract. It is typically made by soaking herbs and other plant parts in alcohol for weeks to extract the active constituents."

My dad is recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Still pending some biopsy results. I am wanting to get him started on CBD oil. Any suggestions on where to start? I am going at this totally blind. Thanks in advance!

@sam324robinette - Welcome to Connect. I'm sorry to hear about your dad but glad that you joined us a this difficult time. I'm a lung cancer survivor of 21 years, with four lung cancers. There are a lot of different types of lung cancer at various stages of growth. Lung Cancer no longer means a certain death. In the past several years there have been many "breakthroughs".
Before you discuss and alternative methods please check with your father's doctor and make sure that it's compatible with any treatments or medicines that he is offered. The biopsy will help stage his cancer, cell type and confirm it.
Does your dad know that you are speaking for him? He's lucky to have your love and support. Perhaps he'd like to "talk" with us too- there is a lot of support on this group. I'd also want to suggest that you go with your dad, if he let's you, to his doctor appointments so you are in the loop.
How is your dad feeling? Is he comfortable, in pain?
