Stage 3 Kidney Disease and Diet: What can I eat?
It seems there is very little you can eat that is healthy for the Kidneys. The web site Davida has plenty of food on it but contradicts what other sources say. Anyone know anything for breakfast, lunch and dinner that does not have any sugar or flour bodies the obvious boring or bland foods good for Kidneys and I’m allergic to sugar of any kind of sweetener and flour. Thank you.

@2011panc, this isn't about oxalates per se but it was the only way I could re-post some important info. Plse accept my apologies - both of them, LOL. Meanwhile, I hope this helps explain the delay in getting new recipes to everyone.
I apologize for the delay publishing the recipes using foods CKD patients once were told to limit or avoid completely (I-apologize-for-the-delay-publishing-the-recipes-using-foods-CKD-patients-once-were-told-to-limit-or-avoid-completely-1.pdf)
I have just been diagnosed the stage3 CDK. I really thought they had made a mistake. Now I face yet another diet. I lost my thyroid 10 years ago to Cancer. I had to have screening after my surgery and before Radiation(oral). I was required to eat No processed foods at all.for 2 weeks. The next diet I was recommended to follow was the Mediterranean diet which in fact described our meals pretty closely And since my body fat disappear quickly and my weight has dropped to 120. I am constantly cold. I have been researching diets for the last few days. And, I'm totally confused. I have also been told Not to take Vitamins of any kind.
Hope this helps in some way.

@afspouse, please do not use this recipe collection until you have checked with your physician, renal dietitian, and/or your care team. I take it you are not diabetic so many of my recipes might not be appropriate for you.
@afspouse I suggest you talk to a nutritionist about your diet(s). I am on limitation diets to reduce fats, fiber, carbs, oxalate, and dairy. Many kidney disease patients are also encouraged to reduce potassium and (something else I don't remember right now). Part of following diets for conditions for me is watching my lab tests. Things can change from time to time and you may need to add/reduce certain things over time based on your current condition. I have no doubt that once you become adjusted to your body's needs it will become easier for you to move on. I believe part of what you are dealing with today is shock at your diagnoses and feeling overwhelmed at the need to change your daily living patterns. Take your time to grieve the loss of your health, but begin taking steps to manage your conditions right away. Blessings to you on your journey. Mine started over 40 years ago.
Hi, I was diag. with stage 3 CKD this past summer. Quite a shock and overwhelming because there were no symptoms. However, finding http://www.Davita.com gave me great info as well as recipes and the http://www.kidney school.org also is well worth exploring their learning modules.
Later finding this great support group, along with recipes from kamama94, have provided me the incentive to learn all I can and given me the hope and confidence I dearly needed in the beginning. I did finally get referred to a dietician who gave me a combined diabetes/CKD diet plan...a double whammy. I had to get a doc ref. for ins. but it so simplified my planning I would have gladly pd out of pocket.
My nephrologist told me No Nsaids like Advil or Aleve and to take otc Tylenol. At stage 3 neither pcp nor nephrologist seemed very concerned which greatly concerned me and thus I started my own research. Learning to read my lab values has been very helpful because I can now modify or tweak my diet if certain values prove problematic.
While members here are not doctors and each person is different, we all do understand and can share with and support one another as we learn to travel this new path together. Glad to be welcoming another newbie and hope you'll feel free to post.
I have stage 3 CKD. what can I do to keep from getting worse - no salt- lots of water but how much? What other foods are forbiden?
@ripatransone90, the kidneys filter wastes so most renal patients are advised to watch phosphorus, potassium and sodium intake, sometimes protein as well. There are some very good sites on the web about diet and earlier in this thread I posted a kidney-friendly recipe collection. Bear in mind that manufacturers do change ingredients and values from time to time so always read labels. Good luck!

To my brothers and sisters on this thread: I'm whiny today. GFR dropped from 32 to 28 and the day after the labs I came down with a severe case of shingles - most pain I've ever felt in my life including kidney stones and childbirth! Neph said I needed to take an antiviral even though it could drop GFR even more. Please send positive vibes that this is temporary! TIA.
@kamama94, I am sorry to see that you have been hit with shingles pain and drop in GFR.
You can count on my positive vibes coming thru cyber space. I hope tomorrow is going to begin an improvement how you feel.
Are the antivirals for shingles? or to help the kidneys? or both if these are related? Has your nephrologist said how long until antivirals begin to work?
