To my brothers and sisters on this thread: I'm whiny today. GFR dropped from 32 to 28 and the day after the labs I came down with a severe case of shingles - most pain I've ever felt in my life including kidney stones and childbirth! Neph said I needed to take an antiviral even though it could drop GFR even more. Please send positive vibes that this is temporary! TIA.

@kamama94, I am sorry to see that you have been hit with shingles pain and drop in GFR.
You can count on my positive vibes coming thru cyber space. I hope tomorrow is going to begin an improvement how you feel.

Are the antivirals for shingles? or to help the kidneys? or both if these are related? Has your nephrologist said how long until antivirals begin to work?

@kamama94 Well, dang it! And you have worked so hard! You have to wonder if the drop in eGFR was a symptom of the shingles coming?
Sending out positive vibes and a shoulder to lean on....

Hi, Kamama, Sending you the most gentle cyber hugs and wishing you continued strength as you heal from the incredibly painful shingles and deal with the drop in GFR. Not suggesting the two or connected but wondering if the shingles may have contributed in some way to the GFR. When I am ill, being in the kitchen is the last thing on my "to do list". Hope each day finds you taking great care of yourself and feeling better.
