Other causes of failed PEth test for alcohol abuse?

I’d still do it. Different labs seem often to produce different results.

See my previous more detailed posts but I would definitely take more than one test from different labs moving forward. Guessing you failed the fingerpick test from USDTL (test lab not necessarily who you took it with)? If so I would go somewhere that does the labcorp version (request a test being one). I would take both every time I was ask to test going forward.

Very good advice. Whenever my program does a PEth, I go to requestatest.com and order a LabCorp test the same day.

I’m not a narc nor am I big into finger-pointing, but if these jokers are up to no-good, I intend to bust them. The harm they have done to individuals, careers, and families is unconscionable. At least we know they’ll be held to account one day. Sooner or later.

I’m like you, I’ve had good reasonable cause to sue a couple times in my life but passed... just because I’m not litigious.

Even if these labs are doing this in good faith, they have a duty to know better. It’s a pretty simple fact it’s doing irreparable harm.

For the record, I don’t believe it’s even in good faith.. I just can’t wrap my head around them being that blind.

I believe something is wrong with the finger stick test, a 20 step procedure to obtain the sample.
Also I was diagnosed with bacterial overgrowth. Leaky gut. Methane breath test confirmed it. That can also effect the resuls. My hair follicle tests were Negative, my mail tests negative, my venous draws were also negative.
I am an RN who sought help, no problems with work, no DUIs, . The nursing board handed down a years worth of testing. I had 3 " positive " tests. My treatment center uses a local owned lab . I wonder about this " middle man lab". Back in May of 2019, another " middle man lab", in or around Dothan, Alabama was found guilty of changing drug test results. They had a contract with the state of Alabama or maybe that county's DHS. When there were positive tests, well more drug tests, ( more money in their pockets) occurred. These tampered results cost more than money, it cost families. Children were removed from their home. I am cash poor so to speak. My word against theirs. I don't have the money to go after that middle man lab. I have had no problems with Lab Corp or Affinity Labs.

I wouldn't do another finger stick PEth test unless I had a venous draw done On the same day. I did that before. I went thru request a test who used labcorp.
If you have to have the finger stick tset, make sure all steps are followed. Inspect the packaging of the test. Make sure they don't use alcohol wipes and that if they use hand sanitizer before putting gloves on, that their hands are dry

I do know that Georgia Board of Nursing is now as of November 2019; has added to the testing of impaired nurses, and it doesn't matter if they don't have an alcohol problem or not. They are now handing down PEth testing for 2 years, along with hair follicle tests which are quarterly and urine drug screens too. Now with that being said, the peer assistance program makes us take 24 urine screens a year. Including the monthly PEth tests. So I am not sure if they don't trust the PEth tests or if they just want us so poor .
PEth tests are $130 to $176
Hair $85- 150
Urine $42.50- $ 58.50.
Weekly meetings $25-30
Monthly lab fees. $50.
So roughly it's $400 a month, none of which can be billed against insurance.
I am passionate about this. I had false positives and then they were adding more tests and another psych exam which was more money.
