Other causes of failed PEth test for alcohol abuse?

Posted by gjones1956 @gjones1956, Nov 14, 2017

My daughter undergoes periodic peth testing for alchohol abuse. She fails regularly, although swears she drinks NOTHING. We have reason to believe she is telling the truth. Assuming she is indeed not drinking, is there a physical condition or ailment that might produce positive peth tests? She is 29, has enlarged lymph nodes, some kind of mysterious condition that gives her severe hives, etc. We are wondering if some type of autoinflammation or autoimmune condition might explain elevated levels. Our daughter is FINALLY discussing this with her regular doctor but if it is some unusual condition a specialist will be needed. The reason the peth test is required is due to a nasty custody dispute with lots of allegations of misconduct. I just want to know if there is ANYTHING other than alchohol consumption that can lead to positive test results. Any thoughts or knowledge of cases? Thanks for reading.

I would start with reading the posts from toolsd, myself, and fairlane. Will give you a pretty good idea of how bad this test is.

When you took the second test was it also with USDTL? If you read my other posts you will see why you really should be taking another test with Labcorp as the backend. Without a second test to dispute USDTL you are going to have problems. Even with it, you will likely still have problems. Especially if you have anything against you other than these tests. The court is pre-disposed to treat you as a liar. They believe these tests no matter how bad they are.

Toolsd and I have a lot of data showing the tests are questionable. I wish we had more same day tests with conflicting results. We have conflicts same day at USDTL different testing facilities and same day conflicts with USDTL and Labcorp and other sources. But I will warn you unless you have a lot of cash to fight good luck getting a court to pay attention to you (at least that was my wife’s experience). You are unfortunately a new member of the USDTL victims club. If you want to PM me an email or phone number I might be able to make some suggestions (especially if your problems are in DFW). I suspect toolsd will reach out as well.

Please take a look at this article....see how much a single application of ethanol-based hand sanitizer raises the PEth! It’s insane....but I think explains a lot of this mystery. Note too that the study participants self-reported as tea-totalers had HIGH PEth levels (in the 60s).

We really need to get the word out on this article. I strangely only heard about it today.

Oh, the airlines are telling pilots in the HIMS programs to not worry about it, can’t happen, AFTER BEING SHOWN THIS ARTICLE.

We are dealing with people who believe PETH is a truth serum. And given they are THAT gullible, this article really means nothing to them. Dibs on selling them alchemy processes...

A woman who OWNS a monitoring company has actually done this herself, and tells pilots to not worry about it... How do we know? SHE TOLD US SHE DID!!

We need to figure out how people finally came to realize the earth isn’t flat. So it isn’t impossible, but could take A THOUSAND YEARS.

If there is any possible "good thing" to come with the current COVID issue - there are tons of people running around using hand sanitizer in bulk. Maybe after the dust settles someone could do an analysis of the data to see that there is a notable spike in people getting railroaded by these (and other) tests. The PETH witch-doctors claim the only exposure that counts is ingest (not that I support this premise) but all the poor people taking other alcohol tests are likely to start having massive failures... as things like ETG tests are very sensitive to such exposure.

I’m hoping that all this hand-sanitizer use will yield enough enough false-positives on EtG AND PEth to put these jokers on the hot seat.

@brundle

I am looking into this also for a patient that is adamant they have not drank. seems false positives are popping up more with PETH

Anything new on this matter. I tested positive for peth at 28ng and I've been completely clean and sober for almost 4 years?

There’s a new (2019) French study showing that alcohol-based hand sanitizer not only results in positive EtGs but also positive PEth. That's game-changing.

How do I get a hold of that study?

I posted a link on another thread (I think “PEth Madness”). I’ll look for it again.
