Hostility

Hello,
My husband has been diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment. He becomes hostile towards me when I question his actions about ANYTHING.
I feel as if I have to be deaf, dumb and blind to live with him. I don't understand nor do I enjoy his company. Help!

Do any of you think this could be depression? When you think about all the losses they’re experiencing , some independence , other functions.

@kmliste Sounds exactly like my life except no Sertraline to help. Our neighbors hear him screaming all the time. Cannot talk in a normal tone, Agitated all the time.

@sjde
Absolutely. I hear depression is very common with dementia. You can administer the PHQ-9 yourself and can find it online (Patient Health Questionnaire- 9 questions).

@kmliste He's been seen by a neurologist, and got an MRI. No physical changes noted on the report.

@murkywaters My husband was verbally abusive and I was told two important things. First, they treat their spouses or primary caregivers the worst because you are their stable person and you won't desert them. Secondly, it is not okay to just accept this, so keep reporting it until something helps. My husband saw a Neuropsychologist and it took a few tries, but he became appreciative and is much nicer. He still thinks it's all about him, doesn't want to wait for anything, but when it isn't going his way the anger isn't directed at me, he just becomes sad or grumpy. It was a hard road getting there, though. He agreed to go to this doctor to address sleep, and she proceeded from there. Hugs and best wishes to you!
