Mildly dilated ascending aorta

Posted by asolidrock @asolidrock, Sep 30 8:52pm

I recently reported having stress test and echo which appeared normal. After I met with my cardiologist he said the stress test was normal along with my echo; he the said my ascending aorta was mildly dilated but wasn't concerned about it; of course it didn't ask any questions. After getting home I "googled it" and it seems that I get varying opinions on the the mild dilation. I don't have chest pain anymore but do feel funny in my chest sometimes. Anyone out there have any opinions.

Thanks

@pegsterb I have a 5.6 aortic arch aneurysm shown on ECHO. But 5.4 shown on CTA. I had a terrible experience getting the contrast into a vein. Stuck me 4x! I was in tears thru the whole procedure. The technician had zero empathy and would not even acknowledge I needed a tissue . Im a retired nurse and thats not the way you treat patients. I was wondering if anyone's had the CT with good results and it wasn't necessary to use the contrast? I've waited for 2mos to see the thoracic surgeon and was canceled Fri when I was to see him.

I pray you get it repaired soon and you get best treatment as im sure you treated others.

@jdssunflower I'm so sorry that you had such a bad experience. They probably did a CT angiogram. They would need the contrast to clearly highlight the vessels.
Some people don't belong in the medical field. It's a people job and if you don't like people, or have compassion and empathy, you need a new job.
I'm sorry also for the cancelation of your appointment. I'm sure you were anxious, nervous and excited to see what is next in your journey.
Is this a new diagnosis?? I may have missed an earlier post. The initial period post diagnosis is very emotional. Shock. Fear. Frustration. Uncertainty. It is not a time for "caregivers " to not give you the compassion you need. It's not asking for much. Give comfort in stressful times. Don't increase the stress.
I don't know what kind of veins you have. With a CTA, I have always been able to drink water up until the procedure. No food for 2 hours before. If you could really hydrate yourself, it might be a more comfortable procedure. Or get a tech with better IV skills.
I can feel how anxious and frustrated you are right now. I hope they can fit you in quickly for your next appointment. Sending hugs and prayers!!!🙏🙏🙏♥️🤗

Just recently had a stress test and echo; both were ok. So I thought. My cardiologist said I had a mildly elevated ascending aorta but nothing to worry about; course went to my patient portal and looked at my report. My ascending aorta measured 3.9 so im joining this group for advice from others.

@asolidrock, you were not out of line at all. By combining both discussions we bring members into one 'room' to meet one-another and to carry on a larger conversation rather than be split across a few different discussions.
