Mildly dilated ascending aorta

Posted by asolidrock @asolidrock, Sep 30 8:52pm

I recently reported having stress test and echo which appeared normal. After I met with my cardiologist he said the stress test was normal along with my echo; he the said my ascending aorta was mildly dilated but wasn't concerned about it; of course it didn't ask any questions. After getting home I "googled it" and it seems that I get varying opinions on the the mild dilation. I don't have chest pain anymore but do feel funny in my chest sometimes. Anyone out there have any opinions.

Thanks

@asolidrock Your cardiologist did the Echo and stress test because of your chest pain. Echo shows pumping strength, structural issues , valve problems and nuclear stress shows blood flow through your heart muscle. He was looking for the cause of your pain. I'm glad to hear that it has diminished, for the most part. Does he think that the chemo had any effect on your heart? I hope you are doing well with with your treatment. Best wishes and prayers on your continued journey!!!

He didn't say about the chemo. Do you have weakness or weird feelings in your chest. I walked 3 miles yesterday with no chest or shortness of breath. At night I feel like my breathing is off for some reason . Oh well thanks for your prayers pray for you also. Im gonna ask about having a CAD done

@asolidrock I don't have any pain or shortness of breath. I found a large pulsating vessel at the base of my throat and a CTA showed that it was my right brachiocephalic artery. An aortic aneurysm was displacing the large vessels in my chest. That was when I was diagnosed. I wouldn't have known unless I felt that vessel or it was found on another study. I get a breast MRI every year because there is a strong family history. It shows up on there as well. Crazy what you can have growing in your body and not know. Stay well!!!

Just recently had a stress test and echo; both were ok. So I thought. My cardiologist said I had a mildly elevated ascending aorta but nothing to worry about; course went to my patient portal and looked at my report. My ascending aorta measured 3.9 so im joining this group for advice from others.

@asolidrock No it's only 4.2 cm. I have no symptoms. It hasn't grown. I'm 72. I hope if it grows, it's so slow that I never have to have surgery.

@asolidrock Not the same thing. A nuclear stress test measures blood flow to your heart muscle while you rest and while your heart works hard. Did you go on a treadmill or did they inject medication that makes your heart pump as if you are working out??
For a CTA you are lying down .They put an IV in your arm. They slide you into the CT scanner. They inject the contrast. You have to hold your breath when images are taken. It's a very quick procedure.

@pegsterb I have a 5.6 aortic arch aneurysm shown on ECHO. But 5.4 shown on CTA. I had a terrible experience getting the contrast into a vein. Stuck me 4x! I was in tears thru the whole procedure. The technician had zero empathy and would not even acknowledge I needed a tissue . Im a retired nurse and thats not the way you treat patients. I was wondering if anyone's had the CT with good results and it wasn't necessary to use the contrast? I've waited for 2mos to see the thoracic surgeon and was canceled Fri when I was to see him.
