Hello, new here and am reaching out to see and read other's experiences. 50 yr old here and my symptoms became more and more frequent. Cardiologist put me on a lose dose Metropolol. This is new to me and definitely alarming when the occur. I would love to hear any feedback about how to deal with them and your quality of life. Thank you all in advance.

@vjs003 thank you, yes I’ve done dome research and have eliminated some things from my diet. I don’t drink alcohol or coffee and have always drank decaf tea but I did stop eating other foods and drinks with caffeine. I’ve been taking magnesium supplements for years before bed. I will look into calcium. I’m not pre diabetic and try to limit sweets and sugar. I have had issues with sleep since I got sick 5 years ago and between that and stress of starting a new job I’ve been hit or miss with getting enough sleep. I’m trying but some nights the SVT makes it hard to relax enough to sleep. Look forward to what EP says and will ask for recommendations for me cardiologist now. Thank you.

@tlaun44 Welcome! And you are doing great! You are educating yourself about it. Also dehydration can bring on Heart SVTs. (Forgot to include that.) Also chocolate has caffeine in it. Your EP appointment will be here before you know it! And may you find a more caring cardiologist with an appointment that is more sooner than later, yes!

@tlaun44 My Cardiologist (Canada) gave ne 420 mg
Magnesium
along with 1 1/2 tabs of Metopolol 25 mg Am and PM
in Nov 2025 and I haven't had an AF episode since
and this is now end of July 2026. I am so happy. I take my Magnesium at bedtime as it relaxes me.

Hi. Good luck with metoprolol. I had fatigue and dead/sore legs almost immediately. Dropping dose to 25 mg helped a lot. Was prescribed for atrial flutter.

I had increasingly worse SVT symptoms and had ablations July 2025 and February 2026. Flecainide and metroprolol made symptoms worse, causing bradycardia and tachycardia with long pauses, so I stopped them and felt much better. Third ablation in March was extensive but it really helped. I'm trying to build back my strength though it's a slow process. Still have some mild symptoms. I highly recommend vagal maneuvers.

@dugroad
Thanks for the Vasal maneuver recommendation. I just officially learned about my SVT this week after wearing a monitor. I knew my heart was beating fast at rest, but I didn’t have a name for it. I will not see my doctor until next week.

@plumto66
This is helpful to possibly understand my fatigue. I’m on 25 mg of Metoprolol and that seems like a low dosage, compared to what you were on before being lowered to 25 mg.

@fri
Hi. Does the metoprolol in the AM make you sleepy?
