2 things, plugging toilet and sitting in bathroom for way too long.

It appears my wife is now overestimating what she needs for toilet paper (#1) and ends up plugging toilet. And, when she does go to the toilet (#1) she can spend way too much time in there. Looking for recommendations on how to address these new issues. She has Alzheimer's, Parkinson syndrome and luey body.

I have another crazy problem that is very aggravating. My husband has prostate cancer that is treated with “active surveillance”. This has been going on for many years. When he has to urinate it is frequent and usually urgent. He takes medication for both issues. The problem is on occasion he forgets to lift the seat so that when I use the toilet, I sit on a wet seat. Ugh! He’s very sensitive and if I say anything, he’ll be offended and I know he’ll deny it and somehow it will be my fault. The only solution I can think of is leaving the seat up all the time which he won’t go for. He’s a nut about keeping the lid down. The only other thing I can think of is wiping the seat each time I have to use it. Any other solutions? I know this is a very minor issue, but very aggravating to me.

My husband has big time incontinence!
Sometimes I have to deal with half of urine in toilet and half on floor. He flushes but doesn’t clean up the floor! Has mild dementia so I just clean up after him.

We do all have our challenges. I’m not sure I have it in me to teach an old dog new tricks. The aerosols are really something I never thought of. For me sitting on a wet seat is more than I want to deal with. I think i’m going to try making it a habit to wipe the seat before I sit. I also deal with loose bowels and he tries to clean up but there is always residue under the seat and in the bowl that he misses. From what I read, a lot of you are dealing with much worse problems than I have and I’m thankful I can deal with where we are. I’m hoping it doesn’t get worse. Thanks to all of you for the support and suggestions.

Sometimes I have to deal with half of urine in toilet and half on floor. He flushes but doesn’t clean up the floor! Has mild dementia so I just clean up after him.

Wow! I'm seeing the same thing with my wife. Didn't realize any of this. Although the huge amount of toilet paper and toilet stopping up is standard here. Thanks!

@bclane this is an interesting share. Toilet clogged, run a bucket of hote water a gallon or so (as long as it's not up to rim), FLUSH, and it will push everything through? ALong with a potential second try. ANd a bunch of liquid soap, even better to clean the stopped up toilet. Our work is never done!

I'm going to try this. Best Karla

@kjc48 I don't see the flooding until I go in the johnny room to get her out as she is just sitting there with wet feet. It has been clear water which tells me she is plugging it with TP and not #2.

@kjc48 I don't see the flooding until I go in there to check on her. As the flooding is all clear, my assumption is she is using too much TP and is not related to #2. A plunger clears it out.

My father was an engineer and a thoughtful man who knew that peeing into a toilet from standing invites both aerosols and droplets of toilet contents which can arc several tens of cm up and out of the toilet, onto the seat, the floor, and onto the wall adjacent to the toilet. Also, the flushing mechanics cause the same thing....believe it or not, and if you have a toothbrush nearby.................................................... So, we boys were firmly invited to sit when doing our business, and then to close the lid before flushing. These two things greatly reduce the....uhhhhh.........migration.........yeah, migration....of unsavory particles and droplets over to surfaces where they can damage paint, make floors stink, and infect surfaces of things you'd rather not touch if you were savvy about it all.

@gloaming Bless your parents! I am currently unsuccessfully chasing the smell of pee by scrubbing over, under and around everything. Dear husband can't imagine having to sit down.

@geppetto My heart goes out to you dealing with so many medical issues with your wife. You truly love and care for her.

I agree with the comment to have it checked out with her Physician. Because the toilet paper issue doesn’t seem to be a problem when she moves her bowels, she may have an UTI. A squeezable bottle with warm water may give her relief.

@geppetto I recently discovered that I can prevent the run-over by adjusting the height in the tank that the water fills to. I looked it up on Google. Has that ever saved me some stress!
