Pain in leg muscles, tendons, and knees after Bilateral PE on Eliquis
One month after massive bilateral PE and taking 5 mg twice daily. Experiencing constant and continual pain in legs, mainly behind both knees, in tendons, and some muscle flare ups. Have had two ultrasounds and a CT scan on both legs since I was diagnosed June 6 and they are negative. My D Diemer is .43 and all vitals strong and regular. Echocardiogram shows no strain on heart. We have ruled most everything else out. No trauma to legs, no cuts, bruises or strains. Is this related to the Eliquis? My local hematologist wants me on it for another 5 months, I won’t be able to make that unless this subsides. Anyone else out there having this issue? Recommendations?

2 ReactionsHad pain in right knee, inner side to the point where I was limping. Thought it was the statin, went off them for a couple of weeks, but then thought it wasn't the statin because it was so localized. Went to an orthopedist who gave me a cortisone shot, pain immediately went away and I went back on statins. Now, a month later, the inner side of my left knee is giving me the same pain! I am going to try 1/2 statin pill and see if it helps.

Xarelto has a higher bleeding risk than Eliquis.
Most of the doctors I’ve spoken to prefer it.
I thought i was demanding & anxious with out any reason, all around me was making me to think so, even my doctors, making investigation more, but with out telling me why im having this much joint pain & swelling all over my body.. Now I'm after 4 yrs if dvt plus multiple both lung PE, I'm on eliquis life long, because its the second time to get dvt, once when i was 26, and the second was 2021, now I'm 49, they told no serous cause of dvt & PE that they can interfere & make it not to happen again, so i was just thinking all the time, how to live with it, I'm trying always to ignore the pain, get up & help family & others like I'm healthy, doing exercises, live normal, but mind is worried doubting is the medicine causing this pain... This page & all the stories i read today make me feel less tension & that I'm right and my feeling was correct. God is giving me the stringth & faith to continue with the same spirit.

I’ve never received a cortisone shot so I don’t know how long it actually relieve the pain. I wonder if the shot just covered up the pain the time being and that’s why when you went back on the statins the pain came back….I Was on two medications that could’ve been causing my muscle weakness in my legs. One was Eliquis the other a cholesterol med, I wanted to find out which one was causing the weakness so I stopped taking the cholesterol med for a little over two weeks. I did not see any difference so I went back on taking it 5 mg every night. I thought if I stayed off longer, I might be causing myself more problems with the cholesterol level. I told my cardiologist that I needed a break from Eliquis, so I stopped taking it after. She finally told me that I didn’t have A fibwhich she said I had it when I had a heart attack in December 2024, but I had a heart monitor in February 2026 and results came back normal but I never heard anything from the doctor until July when I told her I wanted to stop it
So it’s been over two weeks off the Eliquis. My legs are still weak, so I don’t know what the timeframe is if it was causing the weakness, how long it would take for me to kind of get back to normal.
@ruth36 I am taking 1/2 statin every night and 1 night a week off, the knee pain has not yet returned. I do notice an overall weakness in my body but I am 66 so it may be due to that. I am going to start lifting light weights and see how that helps. I hope you feel better.
