Dizziness

Hi there! I am wondering if anyone has felt this floating feeling in head or dizziness but no other symptoms. It comes and goes. Sometimes it will last hours and then go away. I don’t get it what’s could cause it.

I am in Canada and I notice certain medications available over the counter in the States or elsewhere do not require a prescription whereas in Canada they do - and vice versa.

@heisenberg34 I am going through the same imbalance problems. It's not vertigo but just as awful! Feel like I am going to fall over. But my ENT performed a myringotomy (without tubes) and injected liquid steroids into my inner ear through my eardrum. Just had my third injection on Monday (one each week) and crossing my fingers because I feel much better, but time will tell. May need a 4th one next week. The Navage device is just a temporary clearing of nostril passages and the Flonase did absolutely nothing for me after 6 weeks of use. I am told this is either a stubborn inner ear inflammation which in turn inflames my eustachian tube or possibly Menier's Disease. In any event, your ENT telling you to "just keep spraying" is concerning to say the least. I found an awesome ENT after being quite dissatisfied and depressed from prior experience with a different ENT. I feel so sorry for you because I know exactly what you are going through. It is a horrible way to live. I wake up each day wondering if I can walk, drive or be joyful this day. But the injections are promising. I was told from the beginning that it may taken 1, 2, 3 or even 4 injections to find relief. Everyone is different. Even if I feel better, I am going to get a 4th injection to be sure. I am so grateful I feel better at the moment! Hope this helps you!

@rashida talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking chlorpheniramine if you are 65 years of age or older. Older adults should not usually take chlorpheniramine because it is not as safe or effective as other medications that can be used to treat the same condition. I have coronary artery disease, so I really need to be very careful which allergy meds I use--mainly, I take Zyrtec (generic). My dizziness is, I am certain, mainly related to sinus/inner ear issues. Finding a good ENT specialist is difficult--none of them seem to be able to pin-point the problem, even when describing the symptoms so vividly--hearing and age--that's what they blame it on! If it weren't for the darn dizziness, I would still be driving! I am 80, but I still get around pretty much on my own. Guess I am a "dizzy blonde--now gray" ole lady. LOL

@rashida Chlorpheniramine malate is the genric name of an inexpensive over the counter, no prescription needed in the US anti-histamine. I abbreviate it to CM for less typing. I have purchased it the past under the brand name of Chlor-trimaton. I buy generic now, works just as well. Last purchase was through Amazon.

I'm in NYC. Have seen seven well-respected ENTs (at NYU, Mt. Sinai, Columbia) for what I call my "syndrome" -- congestion, PND, dizziness, sometimes yellow mucus, muffled hearing, tinnitus, body aches, fatigue. I've had a balloon procedure and an antrostomy. Not cured. Not one doc is a "Dr. House" interested in possibly connecting the dots. They ascribe the dizziness to Long Covid. Might make sense were it not for the fact that the syndrome dates back to at least 2019. My dizziness, like some of yours, isn't vertigo. And sometimes it comes with a depression that isn't typical for me. I'm fed up, disgusted, and angry. Yes, I realize that these issues (like back issues) are tricky to diagnose. But nobody's even interested in trying.

@shashig you are going through the medical run around that unfortunately happens to many of us.
My experience with going from doctor to doctor is their egos.

Back to the topic. I would have your Vestibular System checked. The Vestibular system controls your balance, and it is part of the ears & eyes.
I had physical therapy for Vestibular Neuritis.
The diagnosis was made by an ENT who specializes in the ear. They are Otologist/neurotologist.

Depression can be caused by the frustration you’re experiencing, and you have a lot to be frustrated about.

I hope you find answers soon.

Lately I seem to have a reaction to anything I try for any problem. Recently I bought a topical roll on, Icey Heat (menthol is the only ingredient!) when the Voltaren Extra Strong didn’t do anything for very bad knee pain, and felt dizzy even before I got the cap back on the tube! I held my breath when a specialist suggested a steroid injection in my knee and was relieved I could walk out of his office without feeling like a drunken sailor! lol. The injection has not had much effect so far, but I think the doctor said it will take a few days …

@SusanEllen66 Thanks so much...I appreciate the suggestion, though one of the NYU ENTs I saw supposedly specialized in ear disorders. Go figure! The Mayo site community, like Reddit, is usually more helpful than most docs!
