1 ReactionI too have severe anxiety, probably inherited from both parents. The only thing that’s worked for me is Xanax. Ssri’s also did not work for me, just made me nervous.
Right now, benzos are the current “villain” drug, and I’ve encountered places that wouldn’t write them. I’m lucky to have a pcp who is willing to prescribe it. If your current Dr won’t, find one who will.
I’ve taken Xanax as needed many years, and I don’t seem to have cognitive issues at 71.

Wish I could go with you and stare him down.
Can someone that you trust go with you?
Also, loving the suggestions for a new doctor 😏
Thank you for that. Hey is it true they only prescribe benzo's for a short time then cut you off of them? I see the Dr today for anxiety.
@tresemae cognitive behaviour (CBT) therapy is the best way to go, if you can get a doctor to refer you to a program.
@rashida yes I start Wednesday. Right now anxiety is my biggest problem but I can't or won't take any anxiety drugs because it just wears me out for the day
@rashida I have been on Remeron alone for a long time and it took care of my depression and anxiety until it stopped working and I needed Ativan, which I took for a long time. Now I take Loreev and added beta blockers to control anxiety and blood pressure.
@tresemae That depends on the doctor. I have been on .5 mg twice a day Ativan for years and it has been a lifesaver.
@kudzu
I take.25 mg 2x day of generic Xanax. It’s the only thing that worked to keep my panic attacks under control. I do have a bad day now and then but it usually only lasts about 2 days. It’s just a feeling of feeling off. Can’t explain the feeling but I know it will pass.
