Any natural remedies that might help with symptoms?

Posted by mountainmarge @mountainmarge, 11 hours ago

I've had autoimmune troubles for years and have had severe allergic reactions to medications, including all antibiotics now, so I've become afraid to take anything. However, with most of my troubles, I've found there's enough literature on subjects like candida, food allergies and such, that I can figure out my problem and find a natural remedy that helps. I haven't found doctors to be helpful with any of my problems yet and they're not helping with this COVID business either, so I'm trying to figure out a solution myself. A lot of herbalists are quacks, though, so you can't believe everything you hear. However, there might be some good common sense advice out there. Has anyone heard any. I'm researching now. I will post if I find any and it proves helpful.

So excited I needed to post right away. My Peterson's guide recommends peppermint. The oil can be extremely toxic, so I don't want to mess with that, but I just happen to have a box of tea in my cupboard. It not only soothes stomach pain and irritable bowel, it also helps with headaches, nervous tension and insomnia. It also stops spasms of smooth muscles (tremors anyone?) Also effective against some viruses. I'm brewing some now. I keep it on hand because a couple of times when I had some severe vomiting it simply takes away the nausea. It didn't cure my flu, but at least I could keep fluids down. I have gotten several other people to try it and it worked for them too. Fingers crossed. Will update soon.

@mountainmarge i have heard a lot of good things about peppermint tea and a lot of people swear by it as a remedy for many ailments but … I am weird; I can’t stand the taste of peppermint and simply gag on it in any form! Also, for some suffering with GERD (I being one of them), it could be counterproductive because peppermint relaxes the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus, causing acid to reflux.

@rashida
Yes I was just reading that and was about to revise my post because quite a few people here are having troubles with that. As far as I can see, nearly all research has been on the oil, not the tea, so I'm going to experiment for a few days and check for improvements. Thanks for catching that.

@mountainmarge There was nothing wrong with what you posted - quite correct, in fact. I was not disputing the benefits of peppermint tea - just saying it’s not … my cup of tea (pun intended)! 😀 As I said, I am weird - what’s good for others just doesn’t work for me. lol.

As for my distaste for peppermint anything … during my childhood my mother used to give us what we knew as peppermint water whenever we had an upset stomach and I hated it. I guess that is why I can’t stomach it now. 😀
