Aortic Aneurysms – Introduce yourself & meet others
Welcome to the Aortic Aneurysms group on Mayo Clinic Connect.
An aortic aneurysm is a bulge in the wall of the aorta. The aorta begins deep in the heart as it emerges from the powerful left ventricle, gently arching over the heart, descending into the chest, and finally into the abdomen. Some aortic aneurysms can be harmless; others can lead to catastrophic problems. I invite you to follow this group and connect with others, share experiences, exchange useful information, and learn about aortic aneurysms.

LJE3KS. I am on a 6-month recheck schedule for measuring the growth of an enlarged aorta. My latest result reads, in summary, that "A measurement of 4.9 cm is classified as a thoracic aortic aneurysm. While this requires active medical management, it is generally below the standard threshold for preventative surgery. " About 3 years ago the measurement was smaller: "The pulmonary artery was not well visualized. Normal aortic root size, dilated ascending aorta size (4.4 cm).
Hello all,
I'm glad I was able to find a support site with so many people here to help! Back in November 24, I found out incidentally via a cta of my heart that I have a borderline dilated 3.8 ascending aorta. I didn't think much of it then, but since a friend of mine recently passed away from a burst anyuerism, I've grown more concerned. I look forward to the information I'll receive!!

1 ReactionHello Everyone,
I look forward to getting to know all of you! I am a 57 year old female. I was just diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm today in the hospital that is measuring 4.5 cm.
I am following up with a cardiologist next need for a stress test and other diagnostic testing. I have been having shortness of breath after excersion, dizziness upon standing, weakness and fatigue that started about 2 months ago. I was workout 4 days a week for the last year and a half, and the symptoms dropped me down to 2. My primary told me to cease all excercise until I get clearance from the cardiologist, which is really hard for me. They are also going to check for potential blockages.

2 Reactions@jeanneap ....I have a similar situation. Just a little over a year ago I had a seizure-like episode. That is when I found out that I have an aortic aneurysm that measures 5.5 cm. My neurologist has had me on some super blood thinners to get me ready to put a stint the aneurysm. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I have CKD which is very reactive to contrast that is needed for the stinting procedure. That contrast will reduce my already low eGFR and possibly send me to dialysis. Best case scenario is the I can raise my function of a level that can handle the kidney function drop without immediate dialysis. Up until a few weeks ago, I had the same tiredness that you mentioned. I had anemia treatments that helped greatly. God speed on our journey. Thanks for sharing
