Dry mouth remedies
I have Sjogren's Syndrome that causes dry mouth. I have been using Biotene Oral Balance Dry Mouth Moisturizing Gel to help me sleep at night. I put 1/2" on my tongue and my saliva started to flow and it sting my throat when I swallowed it. May be the strong sweetness irritate my throat? Wonder if you have the same experience?
Also, any recommendation for products that you use that help your dry mouth will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

@mermaid7272 You are absolutely correct. However, these are made for nighttime use. They have one side that adheres to the gum and doesn’t come off. I’ve been using them for yrs. Thx for your concern though.

1 Reaction@itsmeagain If you have a Costco or BJ's membership they sell them in bulk and they also go on sale every few months there.
small sips of water by your bedside when you wake up- for me that's about 4-6 times a night. not perfect solution but the other oral OTC helpers don't work for me.

1 ReactionI have dry everything thanks to MS. Water is my only defense internally…carry it everywhere whether in or out of home. Have daily reminders on my phone with hourly alerts. And I pay attention and drink within minutes of alert. Keep two full thermos on nightstand day and night plus extra bottles for nighttime refills. Have lived in 6 states (not counting state of confusion), multiple cities and don’t really trust purity of groundwater. Just wish I’d bought stock in bottled water years ago! So traded tap water for microplastic contamination. Best of luck.🤞

2 ReactionsAlso, speak with your dentist. My dentist gave me a toothpaste sample to help alleviate the dry mouth. I truly believe that drinking as much water throughout the day and keep a full glass or two handy for night makes a huge difference.

1 Reaction@chrisanon I have one issue trying to drink so much water- I also have gastroparesis. Even swallowing a sip of water to get a pill down is awful. I feel about to burst.
Would rather stay dehydrated than live with gastroparesis.
Suggestions? I could rinse my mouth than spit the water out.
Yes, have MULTIPLE overlapping diseases, each doctor focused on their specialty and not me, as a whole.

2 ReactionsDo you have a GI specialist? Would an EGD with dilation help? Sure helps me. I have to get another one this summer, just had one last week, and he couldn'tstretch my esophagus as much as he wanted, but it sure gave me relief. It was a very easy recovery. Liquids day after, then soft and diet as tolerated. For me, this time, it was no pain, and regular diet next day, my choice. There are throat sprays to help, and i rinse with water, and sip at night when I wake up. What caused your gastropareisis? If not known, look at your meds. Maybe you can reverse it once you identify which pills are making it worse, if that is the case. Wishing you the best. I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advise, just my experience and frame of reference. I checked online- what i found if this applies: "Medications do not cause Sjögren's Syndrome itself, as it is an autoimmune disorder where your immune system mistakenly attacks its own moisture-producing glands. However, hundreds of common prescription and over-the-counter medications can cause a condition known as drug-induced sicca, which mimics or severely exacerbates Sjögren's dryness symptoms.Common medications that worsen or mimic the severe dry eyes and dry mouth seen in Sjögren’s include:Antihistamines: Used for allergies (e.g., diphenhydramine, cetirizine).Antidepressants: Particularly tricyclics (TCAs) like amitriptyline.Blood Pressure Medications: Diuretics (water pills) and beta-blockers.Decongestants: Often found in cold and sinus remedies. If you are experiencing severe dryness, you should discuss your complete medication list with your doctor or pharmacist. They can review your regimen to determine if your symptoms are a side effect of your treatment, or if you need to be evaluated for Sjögren's Syndrome." 1 Reaction@funcountess careful what you use. My new dentist told me the sugar free candies, lozenges, etc can change the acidity of you saliva causing teeth decay. That is what has happened to me. I use to use sugar free candies, ACT Dry Mouth, Xylimelts, TheraBreath Dry Mouth Lozenges. I stopped taking all of they and just use Biotene Dry Mouth wash and spray. I did do a random acidity tests in the mornings and did see a change in the acidity. I stopped using them all. I now only use the Biotene and keep the spray beside my bed when my mouth is dry in the middle of the night. I'm not a fan of their gel. Tooth decay is common with people with Sjogren's Syndrome. I only experience dryness while sleeping. I do tape my mouth closed at night as well.

2 Reactions@goingcraycray Does the Biotene spray work well? I use the mouthwash but haven't used the spray. Would be handy to have the spray. I tried to get insurance to cover Aquoral to no avail. I've also heard of MouthKote.
@aam1006 I'm interested in knowing how you do an acidity test and if your saliva is too acidic what do you use to lower it? I have a continual taste disorder all day and nothing has helped. I was told that it could be the make-up of my saliva, not the amount that I have.
