The Areds I take from Walmart have only 12.5% of zinc in each tablet. They used to have double that amount, I think they discovered that amount of zinc was not necessary and could cause problems that some people were having.

@kaye46 12% MEANS nothing to me- give MG

I was taking AREDS-2, along with a mulit Vitament, Qunol. All contain Vit E. I had a Blephorplasty and ended up with a Retrobulbar Bleed (severe complication that only 0.5% have with this type of surgury, usually associated with massive trauma to the eye, not during surgury). The culprit was determined to be Vit E. I was advised to stop all my supplements that contain Vit E when I have my next surgery to repair the trauma done to my eye in the first surgery. All FYI...

@michaelstuart1 I should have said 12.5 mg not %. in each tablet. WAY DOWN from the 40 mg they used to have.

It’s probably the zinc.

@nettiemae , That's because some supplements can thin the blood. "Vitamin E acts as a natural blood thinner by interfering with your body’s ability to form clots. While it is an essential nutrient, high doses—typically from supplements—can significantly increase your risk of bleeding."

I find with my supplements it's best to eat before taking them, even if it's just some crackers or toast.

I 've been taking Areds2 for less than 1 years. I have been experiencing a foul taste in my mouth which is also causing an upset stomach. Anyone else having this side affect?

REPLY

I had to stop taking any vitamin that had Vitamin E in and my stomach problem stopped. When I went back on the Areds2 I did one a day for two weeks and now have been taking 2/day for a long time and no stomach issues.
