Wellbutrin & Propranolol, Feeling Misdiagnosed.
I'll try to keep this short, I'm 16 Female, my whole life I've been wrapped around issues with parents involving abuse and alcohol and drugs. I've had other issues happen to me such as SA and previous attempts of unaliving. I just recently got an evaluation but I feel like there's more. But then again, I don't have the money for it and neither does my mom. I'm on medicaid so I doubt I'll get anything from it. I was diagnosed with ADHD+ADD, MDD, GAD, and PTSD & Adjustment disorder, it sounds accurate to me but.. I feel like there's more. My family has a history of Bipolar disorder along with Autism, Im pretty sure my mom has undiagnosed bipolar but she won't admit it. I recently got placed on Wellbutrin and Propranolol, I've been taking it for a month now and for some reason I feel more depressed?... Waking up has definitely been more harder for me and topics like depressing thoughts and thoughts of hurting myself or someone has been increasing since I've been on the medication. I'm not sure if this is normal, then again I've had these thoughts.. I'm just scared to express them to my therapist/psychiatrist.
If anyone relates or understand in some type of way, please answer. I've been confused my whole life.

Hi @gothakechi
So sorry to hear you have gone through these really tough experiences that no person should need to endure.
You sound really proactive about getting help which is great.
First thing - please share these thoughts and feelings about worsening depression with your psychiatrist ASAP. Having an open line of communication about your treatment plan, the side effects, and what helps and doesn’t help, is a critical part of diagnosis. And antidepressants do sometimes have this effect, especially in adolescents. You are definitely not the only person to experience this.
Second - I am sure it is frustrating to not feel sure about a diagnosis. Definitely bring it up and keep it in mind. However, since you do have some diagnoses that feel like a fit, and you do have some kind of treatment plan in place, my advice is to focus on the symptoms that bother you the most and keep refining a plan that helps make those symptoms better. A diagnosis can be important but it’s far from the only thing needed. So many interventions can help regardless of diagnosis. Sleep, mindfulness meditation, consistent exercise routine, healthy eating, etc are critical to the management of so many conditions and they can basically only help.
Finally if you have the opportunity to talk with a therapist in addition to getting help with your meds, I think that would be wise. Meds can be so helpful but again they are not the only thing.
I sincerely hope that you find hope and healing and please hang in there. I believe the best is yet to come for you.

2 ReactionsI’m cautious about who I tell of suicidal thoughts. Yet I would strongly urge you to tell someone right away. Have you tried a suicide help-line? If you’re afraid someone might think you’re crazy, might try to get you “locked up” tell someone else. You are worth every effort you can make to stay alive. You are your best advocate. You may not know exactly how to get started but other trained human professionals do. Please don’t rely on AI for help. Algorithms are not designed to save your life. Is there a teacher, a parent of a friend, a trusted neighbor, an online support group for teens? Does Mayo Clinic have someone who can help or resources you can use? Don’t know what part of country you live but I might start with a tentative call to suicide help line. Please don’t wait any longer. I’m worried about you.

I'm not sure, this is my first time reaching out and trying to get support. Everytime I try to express in therapy or to people in person, I tend to shut down and panic.. Typing is definitely better for me.
I'm scared to call a hotline, I don't want to worry my mother and make her more stressed out. She's already suffering as it is. I just want everything to get better soon.
But if you know a online form or online chat for teens, please let me know. I want to get the help that I need.

1 Reaction@gothakechi I’ll start searching right now. Understand you don’t want to worry your mom. It’s a thought, but consider how hurt, confused, lost and yes, even angry and guilt-ridden she will be for the rest of her life if you try to hurt yourself. Just a thought. I have some young friends I’ll check with for more sources to help you. In return I ask that you don’t hurt yourself before we talk again. Pinky swear!

@westwoman3698 - I truly appreciate your concern for @gothakechi.
Typically, we suggest to Connect members that if at any point they start to consider hurting themselves, that they call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (https://988lifeline.org/) for immediate help.
Call or text: 988

It does sound like this type of resource is feeling a bit scary to call for gothakechi. I'm hoping you might consider trying it out, though, gothakechi.
