Nervous about upcoming trip
I am flying into Msp from Dallas in late April. I will be there for a week. I am seeing a GI and Sleep doctor. Traveling alone. I am not used to travelling since I retire years ago. So the whole trip seems a bit overwhelming. Drive to train station, take train to airport, fly to Msp, shuttle to Mayo, and navigate while I am there. Staying at Homewood Suites. Any words of wisdom?? Thanks!

Mayo has many shuttles that run daily from hotels to hospitals. I have taken them numerous times and they work well. Everything at Mayo is marked well and many volunteers there to help you find your way. Dont be aware to ask because so many people there are experiencing the same.
Good luck and hope you find answers.

3 ReactionsI am a single, 69 year old female having just traveled to Mayo solo by car and I stayed at Homewood Suites. The hotel is awesome: clean and quiet. The night before your stay starts you will get an email telling you to check in and pick your room so make sure you have the Hilton app downloaded. The Hilton app is your keycard to get the elevator moving, unlock your room, open the parking garage gate, etc. I never felt unsafe. The shuttle is a bit crowded in the early morning but getting a seat was not a problem and the return shuttle is a lot emptier and it was on time. There is a printed schedule of shuttle hours by the front desk which is also where the shuttle stops so you can wait inside by the front desk. Volunteers are throughout the Mayo bldgs and are knowledgeable and never make me feel like I was asking a dumb question. It seemed like a lot of Mayo visitors on the shuttle were solo.

6 Reactions@momma2lucy, such a helpful post. Thank you.
Were you also able to use the walkways, the subway to get places without going out in the cold? What was your favorite place to take a minute between appointments?

2 Reactions@colleenyoung all my appts were in the Gonda bldg and I was so nervous about missing an appt first thing in the morning I always arrived an hour early. I brought my Yeti from home and filled it with the hotel coffee and sat and read on whatever floor my first appt was scheduled on and I was usually taken early. Below the Lobby floor there is a Subway level where there are stores and a couple places to eat with many healthy options. Chips, a bottle of pop and a tuna salad on whole wheat came to approximately $11.00. Due to knee issues I didn’t venture far into the numerous hallways to explore. You will be amazed at the sheer volume of patients there. Homewood or Grubhub does waive delivery fees to the hotel. There are many local eateries within a two block walk of the hotel ranging from McDonalds to sit down restaurants. It is a nice neighborhood to walk around in if you need to de-stress. The breakfast the hotel
provides is better than most with many grab and go options like overnight oats in a cup with a lid, muffins or fruit if you need to fast for bloodwork you can take it with you and eat when you can to save a couple dollars.

6 ReactionsHope your flights go well. I’m driving up on the 28th from the Ft Worth area. Difficult task but I’m convinced it is worth the hassle. Unknowns are always stressful but they are normally not as bad as anticipated.

Sounded healthy until you mentioned the pop aka chemically polluted sugar water.
Wish there was another option for a quick lunch other than Jimmy Johns. A Taco Bell would be nice. IMO they are healthier than a lot of other FF places.
