I am a single, 69 year old female having just traveled to Mayo solo by car and I stayed at Homewood Suites. The hotel is awesome: clean and quiet. The night before your stay starts you will get an email telling you to check in and pick your room so make sure you have the Hilton app downloaded. The Hilton app is your keycard to get the elevator moving, unlock your room, open the parking garage gate, etc. I never felt unsafe. The shuttle is a bit crowded in the early morning but getting a seat was not a problem and the return shuttle is a lot emptier and it was on time. There is a printed schedule of shuttle hours by the front desk which is also where the shuttle stops so you can wait inside by the front desk. Volunteers are throughout the Mayo bldgs and are knowledgeable and never make me feel like I was asking a dumb question. It seemed like a lot of Mayo visitors on the shuttle were solo.

@momma2lucy, such a helpful post. Thank you.

Were you also able to use the walkways, the subway to get places without going out in the cold? What was your favorite place to take a minute between appointments?
