Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?

@lips702: I'm so relieved to hear you discussed this with your oncologist. While itching is not uncommon with capecitabine, if it becomes severe as you reported it can be associated with a more significant skin reaction that requires immediate treatment, or as you noted in your case, discontinuing the medication.

Invasive squamous cell carcinoma, well differentiated, right pre-tibia

Noticed area prior to Christmas,biopsy results just came back yesterday. I chose radiation therapy (IG-SRT). My concern is the delay in starting treatment. They are booked up till March 9 and they even encouraged me to not cancel my vacation I had scheduled mid March and just go ahead and start the treatment March 30. Would this be appropriate for this type of Cancer? Surgery was also an option, but they said it would be tougher with the area involved because little to no skin there, painful, and debilitating for a couple weeks with a lot of scarring. I think maybe they were pushing Radiation stuff at me because it is something new there and maybe they’re wanting to pay for their new equipment? Thoughts?

@lips702 Were you tested for the genetic mutation that makes metabolizing capecitabine difficult?

I had squamous cell removed from my cheek and the front of my leg below the knee. MOHS on face and just excised on leg. No scar on face but you can see site on leg. My husband had squamous on the tops of his ears removed by MOHS. Good results for all surgeries.

I had MOHS surgery on cheek. Scar was long but it healed much more quickly than MOHS surgery in an area with thin skin. The surgery area was a bit pronounced for a few weeks but healed well. It was about a 4 inch long incision. Please do not delay treatment.

@queenie2030 that’s what they were telling me about the place on my leg that it would leave a significant scar if I chose surgery.

@marem60 how long was it for you from diagnosis to surgery? I wanna get my spot taken care of, but I can’t find anybody to do anything until March.

Two weeks from diagnosis until MOHS on cheek. It was 1 week after the biopsy that the MOHS surgery was done on my nose. SCC on nose was much more invasive and much more painful to recover from.

I had seen two other doctors before a correct diagnosis. Neither was a dermatologist.
It was a few months after last visit I received correct diagnosis from a dermatologist.

Just had MOHS on scalp. 1.5” diameter to get growth and margins for all clear. Also had “early stage Melanoma removed from back same session (4” vertical scar) Director of MOHS at UAB Hospital performed both. About 3 hours in the chair as they sent Squamous Cell to lab before closing. Melonoma was sent to off site lab. All margins were clear. Frankly was surprised at ease of procedure and proficiency of Dr Huang and assistant. Very little discomfort in procedure and recovery.
