Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?
I have a lesion on my left side of my face just below my ear. Does surgery help or is there a medical cream I can use to avoid surgery?

Today I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in the rectal area. Procedure scheduled for next Friday. Still trying to assimilate/accept/make peace with this.

1 Reaction@magscratch Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Unfortunately, SCC can appear anywhere. What procedure will your medical team use next week? Do you feel you were given all the information you need from them?

1 ReactionShe will remove the growth, taking as little tissue as possible due to the location of the growth. She was very helpful and answered all of my questions plus offered a lot more info. I'm tough on doctors. As the saying goes, "I don't suffer fools lightly". This was my first visit with her - and I was very pleased. I still want more info on the subject.
Thank you.

1 ReactionMy husband had squamous cell carcinoma in the floor of his mouth. He's had a 9 hour surgery for removal and reconstruction. He's now having radiation and chemotherapy.

2 Reactions@trishdavef: that sounds so painful. How was it discovered and how was he able to eat afterwards?
@magscratch: By my calculations, your procedure was last Friday - checking in to see how you're recovering.

1 ReactionSloooowwww. Still pain, still bleeding. but not as much in either area. Also haven't heard results. Unfortunately, my surgeon had ACL procedure yesterday so she's unavailable for a while. Not happy. I was hoping to be farther along by this point. Their discharge directions were not the best so maybe I'm expecting too much.

1 ReactionJust noted your post from September since I just joined this Support Group. Back in the day several years ago, I was prescribed fluorouracil cream for pre-cancerous spots on my face and it seemed to take care of them based on followup visits to the dermatologist. Not recommending it, simply thought I'd mention it.
Hope you have long since resolved you issue(s).

1 Reaction@magscratch The Dr called. I have appt for PET scan on the 25th to check extent (lymph nodes, etc). Will see med oncology & radiation oncology- information gathering stage. Then I’ll decide but right now I’m not leaning towards chemo. I’m 95-years-old & would like to enjoy my remaining days.

2 ReactionsI had MOHS surgery on my nose for Basal Cell Cancer and they found Squamous cell there as well. I’ve also had it on my hand. They cut it out and had to do reconstruction on my nose with a flap.
