Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?

Posted by metermaidman @metermaidman, Sep 26, 2025

I have a lesion on my left side of my face just below my ear. Does surgery help or is there a medical cream I can use to avoid surgery?

@malanna that’s interesting- I am a 15 year ovarian and cervical cancer survivor. Dx with perineural invasive squamous cell carcinoma in lower lip in July. Surgery to remove tumor and just finished 30 radiation treatments.

Yes, MOHS procedure. Expect to schedule it this week.—I have had three
major surgeries in my life but with stitches to close wound. No problem
healing then. MOHS is one or several scrapes( no available skin to
stitch😬😳) and I am on blood thinner Eliquis. Anyone in past similar
situation?

@minervita Your doctor might choose to do a skin graft in order to have a decent area to heal. And since you are on a blood thinner, I suggest you make sure they understand that, and ask if you are supposed to stop that for a certain number of days before the procedure happens. I know that my doctors often tell me that, but then again I only take a low dose aspirin. I have had that MOHS procedure several times, on my face and arms. And every time there are stitches involved. The most complex one was on my collarbone, and the scar looks like a lightning strike!

@lips702 I have neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer that has spread to my liver and bones primarily. A few weeks ago, I had my 13th Mohs for a basal cell carcinoma on my forehead. I also have had Mohs for squamous cell carcinomas. I have been on capecitabine for 3.5 years for my neuroendocrine cancer. What dose pill are you taking? How many times a day are you taking it? How many pills do you take each time? I am on a 14 day on and 14 day off cycle. I still get itching, so it isn't uncommon. Initially, it was way worse. I now "moisturize" regularly with Cera Ve moisturizing cream. It works better for me than Triamcinolone.

I suggest wound care!
They know how to care for healings.

@lips702 That is not a huge dosage. Where did you itch the most? 4 Mohs last week? How many at one time? Where are they? How about the next 4? No fun at all.

Thank you 🌹you are giving me important information. I take the blood
thinner Eliquis. When I asked, they responded Eliquis is safe. My MOHS
procedure is scheduled for February 4. They emailed me detailed directions
on what to do before the surgery. A practical suggestion is to take a book
📚to read and snacks🐿️. I guess it could be lengthy.
I am sorry you had to endure so many MOHS procedures. Hopefully they were
not deep.
Thank you for your response. God’s blessings going your way🙏🕊️🙏

I had squamous cell cancer on my leg and my face. My husband had it on the top of both ears. We both had MOHS surgery and all is gone.

I have had a couple on my arms. Have surgery as soon as possible. They grow deep so get them removed right away.

@lips702: I have also had SCCs but I’ve never treated with Capecitabine. However, I’d strongly advise you to contact your medical provider about the side effect you’re experiencing to see what their professional recommendation is. Can you let me know what they say?

My oncologist has taken me off the chemo.
Hopefully this miserable itching will stop!
I will see my oncologist in 3 weeks.
I may plan on coming back to Mayo, my Dr works with UCLA.
