Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?

Posted by metermaidman @metermaidman, Sep 26, 2025

I have a lesion on my left side of my face just below my ear. Does surgery help or is there a medical cream I can use to avoid surgery?

Sloooowwww. Still pain, still bleeding. but not as much in either area. Also haven't heard results. Unfortunately, my surgeon had ACL procedure yesterday so she's unavailable for a while. Not happy. I was hoping to be farther along by this point. Their discharge directions were not the best so maybe I'm expecting too much.

@magscratch: Sorry to hear this - both about you and your surgeon being unavailable. Have you tried calling their office? Medical providers are generally required to have coverage when they're not available in their private practice in order to provide substitute care. Can you try to follow up by calling and see if they have an alternate or emergeny number?

She did call with suspected results. Am now set up for PET scan & appointment with medical oncologist. Will also have appointment with radiation oncologist. Information gathering stage. 🙏

I had MOHS surgery on my nose for Basal Cell Cancer and they found Squamous cell there as well. I’ve also had it on my hand. They cut it out and had to do reconstruction on my nose with a flap.

@kaki49 I have squamous cell carcinoma on the tip of my nose and have my Mohs surgery scheduled for 2/25. How long was your recovery? And how did your scars heal?

Immunotherapy is new to me. Any information is welcome - when it can be used, side effets, etc.

I grew up in FL and was constantly on the beach. Now I am 82. I had a squamous cell carcinoma on my right shin in early 2016. I had noticed “something” like a large pimple, but hard, a month earlier. My dermatologist removed it and put in 17 internal and external stitches.

I had further issues with it.

Previous to that I had had cancer on my upper lip treated with a cream. It reoccurred 2-3 years later and was retreated. So far I haven’t had a reoccurrence!

@kauger1729 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! I had a basal cell carcinoma removed from the crease area of my left nostril, via MOHS. It was an awkward spot, to be sure. It healed up well. As others will tell you, follow your doctor's orders for post-procedure protocol. And add a hat and sunscreen to your regimen from here on out!

I had SCC on tip and side edge of my nose. They had to remove lots of skin & some cartilage. Healing depends on how much they have to remove during MOHS. Aftercare at home is very important. Do exactly what your surgeon says to do for follow up care & appointments. Praying for you.

@marem60 thank you. I go tomorrow and I’m so nervous. I’ll be sure to follow all of my doctor’s instructions. I’m glad that you’re ok now.
