Lichen sclerosis diagnosis correct?

Posted by moontree @moontree, Apr 7, 2025

Hi, new to the site. I have had vaginal/perianal burning for 6 months.
Culture all negative. Burning comes and go. Redness only. No itching at all. Biopsy finally done showed only “mild” sclerosis.
Told to start on Clobetasol. It’s been a week. It’s making my burning worse. Before the drug the burning was at a 3, now it’s at an 8. To a point I need to wash it off after 30 minutes.
I have no other skin changes. No white patches at all. You would think there would be some other skin changes after 6 months. No itching what so ever.
Does anyone have similar experience? How common is sclerosis without white patches or itching? Is the ointment making me worse?

I am unable to taper down also. Last May I started using Clobetesol twice a day for a month then once a day for one month, then every other day for a month. When I saw the Dr. he wanted me to go to 2-3 times a week which is nearly every other day. I was having trouble on the days I do not use Clobetasol so I decided to try the coconut oil ointment. It is so soothing I can skip a day, otherwise it was hard to skip even one day. I have been using it every other day for nine months. I see my dermatologist in Feb. and will see what she says. It is very hard to control.

I too have assumed lichen sclerosis. Biopsy confirmed nothing just redness and inflammation. When I started using Clobetasol it burned significantly when applied for an hour or so. As the inflammation became less and the bumps became smaller there is less burning on application. Now hardly any. I never had white patches. I find I must use it every other day to keep it controlled. Plan to try the coconut oil or my off day to see if that helps.

I have been diagnosed with LS by my dermatologist. Put on clobetasol which calmed down the itchiness & inflammation. I have a sore or blister that hasn’t calmed down. Will the clobetasol help this? If so how long will it take? Any suggestions?

I will give ozonated coconut oil a try in between my Clobetasol applications. Another recommendation from my doctor was Emu Oil. Anyone tried this product?

Hi lichen sclerosis sufferers. Thanks for all the valuable info. I haven't tried ozonated coconut oil, but I am a Emu Oil users. I find works well. I use it when I'm not in a flareup and in between the usage of Clobetasol when I'm in a flareup.

Has anyone tried using lidocaine to help with LS sores?
That seems to help a little.

@andwho I don’t know if it will heal bumps or blisters. I have bumps that have not healed after 7 months on clobetasol. It does keep the burning and itching under control.

Yes the clobetasol definitely helped the itchiness & inflammation but not the sore or blister (whatever you want to call it) it burns when urinating. What do you use on your bumps or blisters? Any suggestions?

I use my bidet to keep the skin clean and apply Pur ozone infused coconut oil ointment on the days I don’t use clobetasol. Best wishes.
