Hi all, today's blog post talks about our Mayo Clinic Connect page! As you might know, while our discussion group is open to discussing any organ transplant, our page was built surrounding just liver and kidney and the living donor aspect of transplant. We have now expanded! The new tabs now include all the organs! And check out our FAQ tab that now has a link at the top for more resources. If you have questions or comments, don't hesitate to post to us!

I am being screened to be a kidney donor. I am completing my 24 hr bp monitoring in a few hours. My almost 44 year old son needs a transplant. I am 70.5 years old. I am hoping to be a paired donor.

Welcome to Connect, @glengelmd1

That's wonderful that you are trying to be a donor for your son. You will have given him the gift of life twice! I am sure he must be extremely appreciative of it.

When I had my liver transplant I was in a semi-private room and the other woman in the room had been a kidney donor for her husband. She was not young either and she was doing great. I ran into her one time when I was there for a post-transplant visit and she had continued to do well as I am sure you will too. They would not accept you as a donor if they didn't think you would.

I just donated a kidney to my sister last month. Our journey took almost 3 years due to her medical conditions. We are both over 55 and so far both of us are doing great. I wish you both great luck and health.

@betsypuccirogers that's wonderful that you donated to your sister, the two of you must have an even greater bond now than you did before.

My sister did not donate (liver transplant) for me, she was in her 70s at the time so we never even considered it, but the whole process and that she thought she was going to lose me has made us closer than ever were before.

@betsypuccirogers, Your message is like a bright ray of sunshine on this Monday morning!
I am happy for you and your sister. Three years of journeying together has got to be filled with much emotion, struggle, and blessings along the way.
Did you know, three years ago, that your sister would need a transplant? Do you and your sister live near each other? What do the two of you have planned to do to celebrate once she and you are fully recovered?

Organ donation and transplant is a very personal and each one of us has a unique story. I want to share a link to a transplant discussion where some members have told about their experiences. And I want to invite you to think to the future and to consider sharing your story about donating a kidney to your sister. When you are ready, here is the direct link -
