PRINZMETAL ANGINA/VARIANT ANGINA

Is there anyone else that has been diagnosed with this?

David, I saw Dr Amir Lerman Rochester. I was unable to have bypass surgery so Dr recommended a Spinal Cord Stimulator for the pain. It's helped a lot. We go to church with a couple that goes there. I was so frantic I called Mayo Cardio Dept, told them what I was diagnosed with, she actually didn't ask "what's that". She helped me set up an appointment and get set up in the system

I was recently diagnosed with Prinzmetal Angina and my cardiologist wants me to go to a specialist to try to control my symptoms. Stress and physical activity initiate my chest pains and soon after, I am taking my nitro. After that, I am in bed for the balance of the day and maybe the next day. I have had two heart attacks and four cardiac catheterizations with the placement of three stents. I am hoping to find a specialist here at the Mayo Clinic to allow my condition to be better controlled. David

@davidwilliamson1954- Which Mayo are you considering? I only ask because I recently went to the Scottsdale, AZ. Mayo and I was seen by Dr. J. J. Lynch who I would highly recommend. All the best to you in getting the help and solutions you are looking for. @thankful.

Good afternoon.. I have been living with prinzmetals for many years. As most of you with the issue may know, the first episode sure felt like I was having a heart attack, then one week later it happened again, back to the ER, and then admitted for multi-testing, again. There were no blockages, and everything actually tested out quite normal. It was suggested that I had spasms, known as prinzmetals, and I continue to have them regularly today. I also have it "managed" as when an event occurs, I pop in a Nitro under the tongue, and away she goes. The reason I am writing now, is that I would like to find a specialist in Northern Illinois (near Antioch), or heck, I would travel anywhere really, that has good experience with prinzmetals. I'm hoping there's more of a proactive approach then my reactive pill popping. I'm no spring chicken here (56), and I play early morning Ice Hockey, and would like to continue playing, but without having to leave the ice to take a nitro.. sounds petty I'm sure, but if anyone knows a good specialist, I would be most grateful. Steve

Hi there. I was diagnosed yesterday with this condition after months of increasing chest pain and basically all of the symptoms of a heart attack. However, I am 42 years old and do not fit most of the health categories such as hypertension, high cholesterol, overweight, etc etc. Basically, the issue is due to genetics as my father died in his early 50s after having stents. However, I can no longer ask him about his issues and apparently this must have been passed down.

I am a little shocked when reading the information here and the fact so many people have had heart attacks due to the condition as well as other issues. This is different than what my cardiologist called it... "an annoying" disorder that would not "kill me". So now I am wondering if I should look further into the long term aspect of the condition and see what exactly I am up against because other than this, the only real health problem I have had so far is GAD... which, by the way, I thought this was for months because of being in denial about having a problem.

Any input or thoughts as to where to go in search of information would be great. I don't want to go overboard if this is something that will get better with diet and lifestyle modifications; however, I want to be realistic about what the future holds and also find out as much information as possible to pass to my children since this is apparently something that could greatly affect them later in life as well.
