No “meat” on the bottom of my numb feet.
My feet are numb and it gets worse in the late afternoon. This weekend my feet also hurt a lot and I had trouble walking. Last night I realized I don’t have “meat” on the bottom of my feet. 😵💫 Walking increases the pain and I’m managing the symptoms by sitting a lot. I wear Uggs boots for cushioning and warmth (and live in hot climate.)
Sending my doctor a message. Any coping ideas?
I understand it’s related to my diagnosis of Sjogren’s and secondary Raynaud’s, neuropathy and dysautonomia.

I have to wear shoes with supports in them all day. If I walk at all without them I get numbness, pain & neuropathy. I get cushioned supports with arch support and metatarsal support and wear them in a shoe that my foot doesn’t move around in that has a some softness but not overly soft footbed. I find Merrells work well for me. It was a bit of trial and error though but it has helped a ton.

6 ReactionsDid a foot doctor prescribe the inserts? Do you wear a larger shoe size?

2 ReactionsI have a similar situation and my podiatrist told me that your feet have a fat pad on them as a natural cushion; as you age it eventually wears out and it becomes painful to walk. There is no cure, all you can do is put cushions in your shoes.
My podiatrist prescribed my foot inserts. They help alot
Hi Texasblooms,
What an awful situation that you have with your feet! That must be so uncomfortable and difficult to live with. The suggestions of supports in your shoes are good ones. I wore those too and they were wonderful but now my big toe nail is starting to come off by itself, painlessly so if I wear the supports it hurts the toe. I will be seeing a podiatrist about this next month.
Have you tried soaking your feet in Epsom Salts? I do that and it helps my sore toe and other problems that I have with my feet. It feels so good! Try soaking your feet in them every night. It is very relaxing and takes the soreness away.
Prayer works too! I'll say a prayer for you.

2 ReactionsI heard Epsom salts also have some health benefits. Yay!
Sorry to hear about your toe, this disease has unusual symptoms. I hope you can find a painless solution for both the bottom of your feet and your toe. And empathy from your friends and family.
I’m glad we have a voice on this website, and can connect with others who can relate.
For my Rheumatologist appointment tomorrow I’m writing my list of what’s better, what new, and what’s worse.
When I put my weird symptoms in perspective they’re not going to kill me. I just don’t want any new symptom's or meds.
I have other symptoms that are monitored but they aren’t a nuisance.

1 ReactionThank you very much for starting this thread. I have the same type of pain and "no meat" is exactly how it feels. It's painful and it's debilitating. In my case this problem had a very sudden onset but none of my providers can suggest why. It's sad to contemplate the rest of my life dealing with this... Just thanks for the validation that you gave me by bringing this up.

1 ReactionI have skinny, narrow feet, plus a neuroma on my left foot. I find sketchers and Mia shoes to be the most padded on the foot bed, plus Hooka tennis shoes or any other like tennis shoe with deep soles usually have more cushions. My feet cannot hit the floor without a heavily cushioned slip in or shoe. I also add foot bed cushions. I had expensive fat transferred into the balls of my feet but it didn’t work. It also hurt me tremendously. I feel your pain. I feel discriminated against. No narrow cushion shoes to be found. I would like to own a pair of cowboy boots but that’s out of the question, even with inserts. Another brand of shoe that works for a dressier look are SAS shoes and I add cushions because they have narrow and slims but they are super expensive. Must be nice to walk into any department store and buy a cute pair of ladies sandals for under 40 dollars. I have to pay 3-4 times that much and they are MauMau looking. I am a MauMau but I would like to wear a little bit of a cuter shoe if I could, but narrow, cushioned shoes are non existent!

1 Reaction@bb03 Hey there! When we "age" (Gotta love that word!) we start losing the fat pads on the
bottom of our feet which can lead to other issues.
Have you tried Hey Dudes or Skechers? Ross tends to sell the Hoka shoes at a cheaper price if you have one of those stores in your area. I do find Clarks, Naturalizers, Lifestride & Aerosoles have good support. I'm not sure if these come in a Narrow or not.
Flipflops are not the best things to wear unless they are really supportive. Try not to go barefoot (I know...we all love that right?) on a hardwood floor.
I am praying for you to find the right shoes that you like. Blessings & Prayers....
@mnlp77 i wear Orthofeet shoes that my podiatrist recommended. They are expensive, but go on sale at times. They come with a kit of extra insoles and arch supports. They help my arthritic feet that have no foot pads left.
