Started Repatha - Side Effects

Posted by HomeAgainLA @llynch17056, Mar 21, 2024

I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

Thanks again for the reply. I still haven’t decided what to do next.
I actually was doing some research on Leqvio just yesterday. So glad to hear it’s working for you. I was concerned about taking it because the side effect profile includes leg and joint pain and I believe that’s the 6 month injection, correct? Were you scared to take a 6 month injection? My concern is that if it gives me pain, it would last for over 6 months. What was your experience with it and feelings about it?

That would be my concern, too. I’m just so tried of making my body an experiment lab. It seems some of my side effects from Repatha and statins have never gone away. I get so sick and the recovery from these drugs takes longer and longer.

I took the first injection and I was in bed for a week with every flu like symptom possible plus terrible dizziness, I did not take any further injections.

Heck yes I was concerned about 6 months, @repathaconcerns! On the flip side, I was excited at the idea of going to someone else who gives the injection taking patient compliance out of the realm of possibilities.

Before starting:
-I found a doctor I trust that understands the available drugs as well as my unique needs.
-I was following a consistent heart-healthy diet, exercise and strengthening activities.
-I had a conversation with my pharmacist.

I learned Inclisiran stays in your body for about 2 days. It is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) that is gene silencing. I don’t necessarily know more about this except it works differently than any other cholesterol drugs. Do tell if you have learned more!

I had a bad night the night following injection #1, a little better than bad night the 2nd night following injection #2, an inconveniencing night the 2nd night after injection #3. Disclaimer: I am used to bad nights so am a bit hesitant to say the drug caused problems. Maybe it helped?

Since I was obviously not a candidate for Repatha, I have now taken the first injection for Leqvio. This is also a cholesterol management injection, but it is done once every six months. It seems the most serious side effect is itchiness, rash, bruising, and sore at the injection site which I managed very successfully with Benadryl cream, and ice on and off every 20 minutes for that afternoon. However, I did get a very significant 10 day Migraine that required a steroid to break the headache. I am only two weeks out from the initial injection, but thus far I don’t have any other side effects.

These chlorestrol drugs scare me to death, more than heart disease. I keep waiting for the announcement that high chlorestrol is less dangerous than the drugs and to stop them. Ugh
