Tips on minimizing withdrawal symptoms from Effexor (aka Venlafaxine)

Posted by richyrich @richyrich, Nov 2, 2016

I have been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine for years and tried to get off it a few times but each time I try to give up the chemical withdrawal symptoms are a horror story and I give up giving up. Anyone got any tips or tried and tested strategies? Thank you

Oh, I do...it was the last place God brought me to finish my healing.
My daughter in Seattle who worked with landmark for so many years, thought I was just going into the woods to get high.
Each time I went, I would tell her of the changes in me. After 1 year, I could actually feel her realize this plant medicine was actually helping me.
It (the peyote) has helped me get to my end goal of HEALED....
I am so grateful....it was the last step in my healing.

In order for the sacred plant medicine to assist you in your healing, you need an intention or goal. Then the plant medicine helps you achieve it.
Last month My intention was to get rid of resentments I realized I was still holding..my life as I knew it blew up!!!
My life was suddenly in such turmoil. 2 of my children came to attack me with all their entitlement issues.
Only I knew the childhood they grew up with cuz my husband and I provided it. And also consistantly provided a safe place for all the other children in the neighborhood.
My son, to be fair to him, was hit by the addiction genes from both sides of the family. He was a heroin addict for 11 years.
We finally had to throw him out of our home at 29.
He now lives with a woman, a multi millionaire in CA who is 6 years younger than me.
I raised my kids to live their own lives. They had a good solid loving home.
There is no way I am choosing to deal with their entitlement issues.
I am firm on this.
So my intention this month is to allow the sacred plant medicine to find me an affordable, nice place to live....hopefully this will settle my life down.
I always warn...be careful what you ask for because the sacred plant medicine will try its best to assist you.
Last year, march, I pointed to the BEST female butt and said I wanted mine to look like that one...last month, I canceled that order...I didn't realize I was pointing to a 90 pound woman. I was about 180 at the time.
The pesticides almost did me in twice. Full blown COPD and then the cold in this house.
Right now I have managed to get back up to 162 pounds. It has been hard work to regain those pounds from 140 in early December.
Ok, that's my story and I am sticking to it. Bright Wings

Phew, this has been a busy day. I got 5 batches of bread made into cinnamon rolls and started the cream cheese frosting.
The rolls are rising in the oven with the assistance of a pan of hot water.
I made the last batch of bread into cinnamon bread for myself and my adopted sons in town.
Pictures to follow.
I was remembering getting up in the middle of the night to go to my Grandpa's restaurant to learn to make cinnamon rolls. My uncle Ronny, also a chef by profession taught my mom and I how to do it at 4 am in the morning....hahaha, I was maybe 10. I learned and my mama didn't!
See, I am so much more than a pretty face!
I also dashed to lunch at the senior center. I saw a new face come in late... I left my meal to go invite him to sit with me... Hahaha, I didn't realize he was the Major of town. He said he already knew my from my singing on Monday night.
Wow, my life has done a complete turn around in the last month.
I was a lonely old woman then.
Now I am raring to go and it feels SO GOOD. Bright Wings, singing happy tunes

That advice is no good. The withdrawal is from the last little bit of the Efexor being metabolised really quickly. So, tapering will not help. Instead, overlap your last three Efexor tablets (37.5 or 75 mg, which ever is the lowest you tolerate) And then stop them both, or stay on the Prozac if you prefer. No more withdrawal symptoms at al. The Prozac inhibits the metabolism of the Effexor, you see.

Can you explain what you mean by overlapping?

I think its wonderful that we can share so many different methods of healing here. I understand the sacred use of plant medicine, but are you at all concerned about the hallucinagetic and possible addictive effects of them? Just curious. I've done sweat lodges before, but have never felt comfortable with psychoactive substances, I'm 23 years sober.

Wow, 23 years sober, my hat is off to you. I was an addiction nurse for 6 years. I honor you....
At 68 years old, the only addiction I have is cigarettes. I practiced drinking in my adult life but never learned it. I have an occasional honey shot but nothing more than that.
Truthfully, I see no personal challenges with anyone abusing the peyote at ceremony. It is regulated by the government, and prior to each Ceremony the county prosecuter is notified there will be a ceremony. This makes it legal on a state level but not Federal. We would have to have a federally recognised Indian reservation for it to be legal on a federal level.
The entrance to the land is blocked prior to the start of the ceremony so folks won't go driving under the influence.
I first heard of these ceremonies in 2014. Hippy crap I declared it. This went on month after month, for at least a year.
Then the same folks came in and said exactly the same things as every other month, but this time something opened in me. I was going!
I am so glad I listened because the peyote and the Ayaskaha have helped me to completely finish my healing.
I should say, while I have smoked weed, I never cared to try any other substance cuz I get high on life. I hope this answers your question.

@brightwings- That must have been tough to throw your son out, even if you had to. Tough love reflects the name chosen to describe this. May I direct this conversation to the depression and anxiety group so others can benefit from you experience?
