Oral lichen Planus: What home remedies or medications help you?
Anyone in the group suffer from Oral Lichen Planus. I am at my wits end with all these erosive sores in my mouth. I've had two biopsies , one in the inside cheek and one under the side of my tongue. The spot under the tongue is extremely sore to touch and has been for over a year. It scares me because the soreness never goes away, sometimes it isn't as sore but nothing helps. Any home remedies for this dreadful condition?

best of life: Is Periodontax a rx or over the counter product? Mine is a rx steroid (Dexamethasone). I use baking soda, sometimes , to brush teeth which initially burns.
I've discovered I have to avoid foods with oxalates....like spinach and kale. Also, all the acidic foods, pineapple, oranges, cranberries, cherries, raspberries, tomatoes, soy (it's in everything....it's a ''filler''), pecans, walnuts, brazil nuts, almonds (I can eat almonds if the skin is removed), white potatoes (I remove the skin and I can eat them), chocolate (bummer), cereal (it's the bran that's the problem), dried fruit (sulphates), all peppers including the green, red, orange and yellow (due to capsaicin). So, pay attention to ingredients as there are so many that say ''we're healthy, we have such and such ingredients that's the best for you''. Pay attention to your mouth and lips, they let you know when something doesn't feel right, or the mouth and lips are burning. Maybe keep a food diary, with notes about sores in mouth and on the lips and see if you can make a correlation. I know it's annoying to have banned foods, like CHOCOLATE, but for me it's worth it to not have the burning pain, and blisters. Hang in there, OLPers!
I agree. There is also a school of thought that says dairy is a huge culprit, an I just happen to consume large quantities of Greek yogurt!! Does anyone else here have trigger foods?
Peridontax is over the counter. I haven't been prescribed anything yet. My dentist wants to wait a month to see if I can get a handle on it. If not, she will send me to a specialist. Maybe then will I begin to get steroidal meds.
Please google "mouth wash with zinc". I just did and found several, from known manufactures. Apparently it is used to improve dental/oral health for people who have significant problems.
I'm off dairy, due to intestinal issues, and I feel better over all. When I stopped dairy I lost 15 lbs. too. I eat kite hill almond milk plain yogurt, it is very good, nice texture, I sweeten it up with real maple syrup and pile on the fruit. I think the hormones in dairy is the biggest issue.
My oral specialist told me to use the clobetasol GEL on persistent sores in my mouth...apply then let set for a while before drinking. It is a steroid, so it's not for long term use.
I had a biopsy through Dermatology and it showed lichen planus. Have you had a biopsy?
not sure this is helpful. i like dark listerine or generic it has to be brown. i also use once in awhile peroxide rinse let it foam up. seems to clean up the itchy throat and covered tongue.
Thank you! I forgot... I got Clobetasol from my family doctor! And I agree... when I have a flare up I use the gel at night when I go to bed. Its a great help. So I feel like Ive found all the meds required to fight it. I just need to be more disciplined ...like Ive had to be with my celiac ( 25 yrs!) and stay away from acidic, salty foods. My concern that over the long term something might become cancerous. Who knows that when they see it? I just turned 80.
