Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

Hi There, I think I've just met my sister from another mother. My life is almost identical to yours. I live in the middle of 70 acres of land so I rarely get to see people all week.. Even on weekends I see people but I can't really talk to them as they're just enjoying the property. Once a month or when I'm feeling up to it, I go out and talk to someone. Plus, I've had two spinal surgeries and a knee replacement. Turns out I'm allergic to the titanium implants. Now that pain has been heightened by the fibro. Sometimes I feel like I'm in hell on earth. I used to be able to get around better until the back op. It was from S1 to T12.
Most days I stay laying in bed for about a half hour, take my meds go lay down watch a couple of my favorite shows.. After that, I scream at myself to stop being such a baby and picture some of the patients that I've seen at MGH That really helps me to drag myself out of bed and take a nice hot bath. Going to get a nice soft massage is a relief. For however much time you can afford. I'd rather go to the spa than eat. Also, my husband bought me a massager with two big round devices on the end. I feel it works for a while and gets the blood moving.----Doctors say that better blood flow helps heal the body faster, it's worth a shot. Try to shop on line if you can. I buy myself a lot of beautiful clothes(in the size I'd like to be). I shop at expensive stores, sometime for hours.
In the end I have to go back and delete all of the items I've "purchased", but it was fun for a while. If you're not into clothes that much, just look at things you've always wanted to have. One more thing, I've noticed that there a lot of clinical trials out there. Just my sister sent me a medical magazine and it had several talks on Fibro. Keep Praying! Carol

Hi. I am so sorry you are suffering so much. I think that hydrocodone may be a good choice for some types of pain, but fibromyalgia responds very well to Elavil and Gabapentin. I took Elavil for years, and it also helped with my migraines, and gave me a much better night sleep. Good luck to you. Irene

Thank you for the recommendation, Tonyc55. I did smoke it for about 8 months. It helped some for a while, but in the end it greatly lessened the benefits of most of my medications; plus, it's very expensive for the good stuff. lol! I hope you're enjoying a nice Sunday.Clownscrytoo 🙂

good morning! thank you for the tips. I really appreciate it. I haven't tried a massager. it hurts too much when my husband tries to give me a back rub, but I will go to a store and try it and see if that helps. I shop on Amazon a lot, but I have to watch my 'cart' because I'm over $50 before you can blink! lmbo! I've tried to sign up for clinical trials 4 times now and they always turn me down, either because of my different diagnoses &/or my medications. I do want to try that massager, though, and get another heating pad. that also helped some in the past but mine broke. Enjoy your day!
prayers out to you...

@irene5
hello. thank you for thinking of me. I've heard of Elavil. What kind of med is it? Pain pill? I can't take Gabapentin, because I had bad allergic reactions to it. I've had over 30 meds cause allergic reactions, usually edema. do you no longer need the Elavil? I hope and pray you have a lot less pain now.

Elavil is also amitriptyline which is used for depression, neuropathy, migraines, and fibromyalgia. It is also used to lower blood pressure. I was on it for ten years, and it was awesome. I no longer have migraines. Even though I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, I don't think I have it. I do gave chronic pain and peripheral neuropathy - a pain med that might help you instead of hydrocodone is tramadol. I am on so many meds for a debilitating lung disease (never smoked) that I stopped the Elavil - I saw your post and thought that it might be a great choice for you. I am overly careful with pills because I am old and small. Hope you feel better soon. Quality of life is sooo important. Irene

I really appreciate your advice/tips, thank you. i'll check to make sure I haven't taken it before and had bad reactions to it and if it's compatible with my other meds. I am sorry you suffer from lung disease. I pray you get better soon.

You can make your own heating pad! If you are a non sewer like I am you can take a sock fill it with rice and tie it up. Heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time till its warm but not too hot. I have one made from dried corn that I put a few drops of lavender oil on.

I have been on Savella aka milnacipran and that helped. Now I am on Cymbalta and that helps a good deal. Otherwise, you sound much like me. I have chronic neck pain added to my story but only get 1 or 2 Vicodin per day but not even a whole months supply--I'm no addict, we have military (retired) insurance and the military health care is trying to paint spouses and retirees as opioid dependent.

I tried a diet plan that a doctor wrote and for me it worked. It had something to do with not eating anything from the night shade families such as anything with tomatoes, potatoes, etc. You do have to follow it exactly but it is worth it plus you can lose some unwanted inches as well.
