Anyone diagnosed with PMR after the Covid vaccine?
I received the Pfizer covid vaccine and had horrible joint pain 8/10 as a side effect. I reported it online. 7 months later I developed horrific joint pain in my shoulders, hips and knees(same pain after the vaccine, but worse). I was ultimately diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rheumatica. I wish there was a site to go to and report these things.
I am only 57 and was a runner most of my life up to the age of 51, so I am not in horrible shape for my age. The pain from that PMR was very disabling. I am now on Hydroxychloroquine 200 mg BID and Prednisone 10 mg a day. Not happy about having to take more medications.

I've also been hesitant to get the newer shingles shot, but did get the older version long ago. I do know that I will never again get a vaccine that is an mRNA type.
I totally agree! I had the one dose shingles vaccine a long time ago too. Not sure what I'm going to do now.
I know there is no proof of a relationship between the Covid shots and PMR/GCA. However my rheumatologist told me no more Covid boosters.
So sorry you are going through this. I can definitely relate. I developed PMR with in 36hrs of my 2nd Pfizer Vac. I was 58 at the time, prev runner also.
Has anyone had major surgery just before PMR came about.
I had major neck surgery on my c1-c2 are of my spine. 6 mos later PMR!
I am looking for relief without prednisone. I took that for about 5 mos. No thank you.
Tapered off about 5 was ago a full pain from neck to the back of my knees devastating.
I had Covid in January and my symptoms were the same as PMR. It went away and 3 months layer I started have joint pain everywhere. Recently I was diagnosed with PMR. Don't know if Covid brought out this inflamation.
I saw my PCP on Friday and she recommended not getting the shingles vaccine now.
@lashley75 I think extreme stress can bring it out, at least that is what happened to my mom and I both. I don’t have an official diagnosis but mom does. I started us both on 6000 mg of moringa supplements every morning and 3000 mg at night (2 capsules in the morning and one at night) and both of us are feeling less pain. It helps with a lot of things. She was on prednisone for many years and it gave her diabetes. Maybe give moringa a try and see if you can get relief. Amazon sells it reasonably.
Wow - seems like there could be a connection there....this PMR is just so evasive in every way. I hope someone can get this thing nailed and stop throwing people on steroids if they even sound like they *may* have it. There are so many things these symptoms could be covering and every doc should be doing lab panels (cytokine, ELISA, RF factor, etc) before they decide ANYTHING. I read today that IL-6, an inflammatory factor, if elevated could indicate many things happening within our bodies. This was in an article about covid boosters and PMR. I would never have associated one with the other, as I am very pro-vaccine, but there are findings.
I can't take prednisone for many reasons. May I ask why you stopped it? Are you taking anything for pain?
My best to you!
Interesting, found this this morning. There is a section just on PMR that had some new things in it that I'd never seen esp about IL-6.
