Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

Thank you…Yes, a large percentage of us have all normal test results. That gets the doctors off the hook…If tests are normal that’s the medical profession’s case closed and pass us on to the next “specialist.”
Most of us are saving our own lives since we tend to keep up with the latest research and the doctors are too overwhelmed to even think Covid.
I have seen dozens of doctors in the last 3 years and not one has offered any assistance on any level except for a referral to the next doctor. If Big Pharma doesn’t have a Covid pill doctors can’t help.
I do every supplement that is supported by Covid research . I am totally functioning and living life with leftover symptoms.
Grateful to be alive…

I was told that they test for everything because they rule out in order to determine if you have long Covid I too have had multiple tests done and everything is normal but I don’t feel normal I have this Globus sensation in my throat, postnasal drip brain, fog, fatigue, etc. and It’s ridiculous

I have that Globus sensation is what they call it. I went to ENT everything’s normal there went to G.I. and now I’m scheduled for an EGD. With pill cam study.

Can anybody relate? Wow - I sure can! And while I am sorry for others who may be afflicted with this 'drip' or whatever it is - I am happily surprised to find myself in good company. I had convinced myself that I had throat cancer or the like, as I am 64 and never had anything like this incredibly annoying phlegm assault.

I did a radio show for over 20 years, and related to that daily hour I was always hyper-aware of my vocal projection, modulation etc. The way I am now if I talk for 5 minutes or more my voice gets hoarse and if I don't clear it ( and I have to do so very forcefully ie loudly) I can barely speak. It seems like such a minor thing to someone reading about this, I'm sure, but the extent to which it bothers me on an hourly basis literally affects my quality of life.

Not to be too gross about it here but if anyone else experiences this thing or anything like it I would sure appreciate hearing about it. One thing I have found really weird is how I cough the stuff up. It always comes up in the exact same form - an inch or inch and a half stringy thing as though it was cut from a ball of string. Never is it 'loose' or shapeless - which until now is always how I experienced 'spittle' in my life.
Thanks all for sharing, and please touch back with any noteworthy news.

Indeed, I can relate to the throat cancer thoughts but then, if it were so I would be getting worse, not just being in a chronic stable state of phlegm, phlegm, phlegm, cough, cough, phlegm.....well, you get the picture! When something finally "breaks" I anticipate this giant "loogie" exiting my mouth but alas, a wee little gluey, whitish pale yellow spot half the size of my pinky fingernail is all that flies! And around I go again. Some days I get a break and think I am on the upside only to have 3 consecutive days of phlegm, cough, tickle, and so on. I am sure I am annoying people so I don't go out, I stay home and annoy my husband who luckily, had his last bout if this Monday! Yes, the hoarseness is from the constant clearing, which it turn produces coughing and inflammation of the throat. Doctors, good ones that is, have no answers. There is only hope, I am getting depressed so I have to put on my positive attitude and try to move on but it is not easy for me. I wish you all the luck the world has to offer and please stay in touch!

I started out with the phlegm aka "glonk" and now it has morphed into cough, tickle, clear throat five thousand times a day. My hair too had thinned since covid. I am so sorry for all you are going through. I am done with calling my doctor and doing tele-med. I have to learn to live with it but I don't have to like it! I eat a plant based diet, take fermented supplements, make my own quercetin and so far, nothing has worked. We now know what it is like for the millions of humans who suffer with chronic disorders for we now have one. I do believe we will heal, I just do not know when.

I’m never without a tissue in my hand. It is quite unbelievable. Being a long hauler whatever doctor you go to will put you in the box with all the others with the same symptoms who have never had Covid! Just because there is no box for long haulers…yet. So I would bet any ENT has told more than just me that it’s sinusitis and told you to use a nasal spray, saline, and otc sinus meds. Of course none of it helps….
We have some bizarre leftover Covid cytokine infiltration and I’m hoping some of the bazillion supplements I’m taking will eventually bring some relief by happenstance.
All I would like to know for now is if anyone has this off balance feeling when walking. I believe it is a result of all that is going on in the related glands…but it is a little scary…

Vertigo is common in long haulers, I had two bouts myself.

lol…they seem to all tell us to “rule out”…just to prove they’ve made an attempt. Billions of dollars later…including our copays….they
“ain't gotta clue.”
We are all thrilled our tests come back normal…if there is such a thing…too normal. They need to make new categories for us long haulers. Our symptoms look familiar but Covid has created imposters. How about Covid drip?
Unending nasal drip without a cure thus far. That’s pretty simple.
If they keep trying to put us in old boxes that don’t fit they will continue to prescribe sprays, inhaler meds, salines, etc. And too many of us try to tell them that doesn’t treat Covid drip.
The same goes for many other long haul symptoms. But they will continue to take copays and push Big Pharma…That’s what they have mastered.

I read the research and modify my self treatment accordingly.
Always should Google scholarly papers on Covid research with your specific symptom.

About a year or so ago, the provider I see would have dismissed my symptoms as health anxiety as I made the terrible mistake of sharing with him that I suffer from PTSD. He asked me how long I want to "be a victim" of my upbringing. Had I not been blindsided by this question I would have been sarcastic and said: "How long to you plan on not understanding the complexities of childhood trauma". I suppose because I am older than him(I am 65 he is maybe 42), his expectation is that I should be "cured" by now. I have been in contact with the new office and was able to share a conversation with my husband's former doctor and he, the doctor, seemed to understand LC is real. The phlegm is real, the coughing is real, I mean when I can finally spit up some glonk it is a gluey pale yellow pile of yuck, that is hardly due to PTSD. My point is even the seemingly best physicians are clueless but I look at it this way and maybe this will help someone, I was in perfect health the day before I got Covid-19, the months following have not been so good as they were on January 4th, 2024m the day my test(s) came back positive. We all need to advocate for ourselves and continue the search for physicians who are compassionate and believe that LC is real. I am NOT mentally deranged, I am symptomatic with LC. My husband, who is of sound mind and body, lol, also suffered from this, thankfully his is nearly gone. Without this support group here, I imagine many others would be told they have fallen into the abyss. Hang in there everyone, we know what is real and we can stay the course, with or without the aid and support of our physicians.

Actually when I can get any phlegm out it’s like pellets sized like half-a-pea to twice-a-pea. Specialists so far have passed me to the next. Pulmonary, ENT, GI. Next is allergy/immunology. Maybe? Hopefully? If so I’ll share. My research does lead me to histamine intolerance or MCAS, both of which are relatively recent recognitions and kinda like fibromyalgia meaning not fully recognized by mainstream medicine. As if we’re all quacks!

Trelegy Ellipta 200-62.5-25 mcg inhalation powder is what has helped me with the nose running - phlegm is better, but not gone. I have tried everything, all the tests are finding nothing.....First they cleared me from copd and NOW the polomogist says COPD but I don't care at this point let them label it - if the medicine works - that is all I care about... You should try Trelegy and see....I feel soooo much better - the inflimation is gone down too. Good luck Friends..
