Phlegm in my throat and post nasal drip after Covid

Posted by danny2022 @danny2022, Dec 18, 2022

Ever since I had covid in January of 2022 I recovered from the virus but I was left with a constant phlegm in the back of my throat and post nasal drip that will not go away. The feeling of having mucus in the back of my throat actually gets worse when I try to get rid of it by coughing. I have been given steroid inhalers, albuterol, allergy medication, but none of these work. The mucus gets worse especially after I eat. I've never felt like this before and it all started after covid. Can anybody relate to what I am going through?

Has anyone actually gotten any real help or been able to resolve the throat and mucus issues? Have any doctors been able to identify if it is gastro or other related to post-covid, like mast-cell issues, over-active immune system and cytokines, viral reservoir, etc.?

@oly78 Not in my case. I have been to Allergist, ENT, GI, Pulmonologist and Long Covid clinic. Nothing works so far.

@hpgl19119 Wow so LDN actually helped you with the nasal issues? Our bodies really are so complex.

Did you have to build up to 12.5mg? I only ask because it seems high in comparison to other experiences I’ve read about.

@oly78 Which kind of Doctor prescribed LDN? Just wondering so I can go see that specialist.

I totally agree with you. Amazingly, my symptoms are finally resolving! I am off of all my allergy meds & only using albuterol for flare ups right now! I think my respiratory system has finally regulated itself back to normal. Here's hoping!! So, hang in there, your body can heal itself!!

Hello Boo!
I can definitely feel your pain! Please see my other posts & comments here. I have been able to totally get this under control with Xhance, Albuterol & Mucinex. Xhance did wonders when I could get it!

Wishing you great health!

@clcarranza Hi Carole, Could you please outline your regime? How many times Xhnace? Is Albuterol inhaler or nebulizer? How many Mucinex per day?

yeah you and I could talk about mucus
I have had Covid 4 times
the first 3 times no phlegm or mucus
most of my side effects were psychological

the 4th time however my Covid was mild, took paxlovid and a month later was smacked with excessive phlegm

I can fill up a coffee cup a day with phlegm
its been this way day in day out for 9 months
I have seen 6 doctors and counting

I have also been given steroids, inhalers, chest x ray
nothing helps

I have been told to focus on diet and exercise and cut out dairy, alcohol and bump up water consumption in a major way

as of today I have heard about something called lung fibrosis post covid and have a phone number for the pulmonologist who did a study where patients suffering from these two types of lung fibrosis were given 3 month? courses of steroids and supposedly its actually helpful. I am going to cold call this guy in omaha on Monday and see if he has anybody out here in rural Hawaii who can help because my doctors are convinced its all just gonna get better on its own with some effort on my part towards wellness but by all accounts this lung fibrosis thing actually doesn't get better unless its treated and if treated supposedly everyone sees results in a positive sense.....

I also drink a ton of breathe easy tea and make a juice with pineapple, turmeric, honey, black pepper, oregano and carrots that seems to help a lot...also nasal douche with saline solution and then doing my inhaler and nasal spray combo

I also take NAC, b vitamin, magnesium daily and chew up a clove of raw garlic

doc has me modifying that to include vitamin c and doubling up on the nac

@palka9898 Hello! First let me say that I feel your pain with this relentless mucous problem!
I use a Trelegy oral inhaler once a day in the morning, Fluticasone Propionate - 2 sprays per nostril at bedtime, and 12 hour mucinex at bedtime. Sometimes I also take a Sudafed PE tablet at night &/or morning as well. With the autumn weather/allergies I am also taking a 24-hour Zyrtec or Claritin. I find the generics of all the OTC meds work for me. In addition, I use an albuterol inhaler as needed and I find the throat spray called Barlean's Immune Throat Spray (Amazon) invaluable to clearing mucous throughout the day! Seems like a lot but it's not difficult to do & if I stay on top of it, the mucous stays at bay & I don't cough or clear my throat so much. I don't take Xhance anymore but it DID get me over the hump in getting this all under control.

All the best in getting your mucous problem figured out!

Best, Carol

@lauralej I am in the same boat. Inhaler helped me for few weeks and all symptoms are back.
