Diagnosed w/CAD prior to mitral valve repair. 68 yo non-smoking female. Taking Crestor & metoprolol. Scared & depressed.

@jackiekos Don't be afraid. I have had about 40 procedures on my heart so far, in the last 40 years. Plus probably another hundred images, tests, etc done in facility labs around the US. Plus I take my own BP 2x each day, and pulse, and O2 each day. And measure some heart beat, PVC, skips, tachycardia, Irregular hear beat. And I am still alive, and don't expect to die any time soon. I know that my Gelsolin will one day do me in. The little fibril buggars will get into the nerve between the brain and the heart, and if I am not next door to a major hospital at the moment, I will have about 30 seconds to live. Anyway, I am not afraid, for God and I are on speaking terms. She tells me what she wants me to do, and I say, "Ya gotta be kidding!"

Thank you for replying. I don't always walk or eat right. I do take the meds I hate. This all took me by surprise and I haven't reacted well to the news. In fact it's consumed me. I'm trying to change my thinking.
@jackieos Hi don't worry as OldKarl said I had a by pass triple 22 yrs ago I'm fine had my last chemical stress test 2 yrs ago I'm fine the thing you have to realize your diet changes to getting rid of fat and sugar limit salt and exercise is important you will be fine take your meds my by pass was 3 arteries 85,90 and 95 blockage but I'm great and you will be too. Just listen to your cardiologist. and do the rehab afterward if surgery is in order.
Did you have a heart attack before your triple bypass? If not, how did they know you needed surgery? Did you eliminate fat & sugar? Right now I have a 20, 30, and 60 blockage. Thank you so much for your response. I'm glad you are doing well.
@jackiekos No my symptoms where excessive sweating ,short of breath on exertion pain in chest I was on nitroglycerin patch before surgery My arteries where clogged so its hereditary from my Dad But as I said just try not to worry listen to your body and cardiologist.No I didn't have a heart attack but if I didn't listen to my body I would've.
@jackiekos Yes I dont do red meat occasionally after 10 yrs I eat a hamburger @try not to do sugar but this ones hard lol
Mine is also hereditary. I had my mitral valve repaired last October and during a routine cardiac catheterization they found the blockages. I assumed my dad had a heart attack because of his smoking, but apparently he had high cholesterol too. I stopped eating red meat and pork and try to limit all fat. Giving up sugar has been harder.
@jackiekos Hi, fellow traveler! Just a few things. 1. Change your diet. I eat nearly the same stuff every day, but vary it enough to actually have a healthy diet. Breakfast: 8oz of Cranberry juice. 3oz pork, turkey, chicken sausage, after cooking (microwave) out most of the fat and salt, with one egg (omelet fried in olive oil) and a low salt slice of American cheese, all on an English muffin. half dozen prunes and a cup of coffee. Lunch: Chef's salad with celery, lettuce, culiflower, green pepper, tomato, Mexican cheese, tofu, red chili pepper, balsamic vinegar and olive oil, with a fish or poultry meat portion (2 oz). Water to drink. Evening: poultry, with veggies, apple sauce. Late Evening: 1 big dill pickle, washed. 8 oz water with a jigger of Sipping Vinegar and turmeric. I fix my own breakfast, lunch and evening snack. Donella does the evening meal. My A1c stays around 5.6-6.0 most of the time.
I’ve given up meat, although I will eat fish or seafood on occasion. I’ve cut back on dairy and am trying to eat as little fat and sodium as possible. Sugar has always been a problem but I’ve improved. I’ve been reading different books on diets for heart disease. I am interested in why you drink sipping vinegar and turmeric. What is A1c?
@jackiekos. I also drink ginger-Tumeric tea this is for inflammation which is in are body this really taste good and when I'm in pain after drinking it the pain is less severe
