Brain MRI: Do findings possibly indicate small vessel brain disease?

Posted by sarah371 @sarah371, Jan 19 11:27am

Hello,

My recent brain MRI indicates 'moderate likely small vessel ischemic changes and moderate hyperintense T2/Flair signal of the corona radiata bilaterally'.

Do these findings possibly indicate small vessel brain disease that may be similar to my previously diagnosed coronary microvascular disease?

Thank you.

Both conditions arise from the same mechanism - plaque build up. At least the coronary issues have the potential to be addressed via stent or bypass, but as my neurologist said "we can't roto root your brain". Good luck!

@sarah371 This must have been alarming news for you. Have you talked with the doctor who ordered the MRI? I think that would be a good idea so that you can ask your questions and your doctor can tell you what the findings on the MRI mean and if the brain findings are related to your heart findings. Do you have an appointment coming up with your doctor?

Hi Keith,
Thank you for your note and sentiments. I am preparing for a cath and stent(s) in the coming days. Looking forward to getting that relief. Hope you are well and please take good care.
Sincerely,
Sarah

Hi Helen,
Thank you for your kind note and thoughts. I am scheduled to see my neurologist at the end of January, but my appointment may be postponed since I'm preparing for a cardiac cath and possible stent(s) in the next several days.
Hope all is well with you and please take good care. I appreciate your concern and compassion.
Sincerely,
Sarah

Hello, Sarah,
You are very welcome. I will keep you in my thoughts as you get ready for the cardiac cath and possible stent. I appreciate that you returned and kept me in the loop. I am hopeful that when you do see your neurologist that your questions will be answered about your MRI.

All best wishes,
Helen

@red79 That's a difficult diagnosis to hear. Can you share your symptoms and how you are coping with this diagnosis? Did you see a neurologist?

@sarah371 Did you have the cardiac cath procedure? If yes, how was that and how are you feeling? I'm also wondering if you have discussed the MRI results with your doctor? If yes, what did you find out?

Are you talking about Microvascular disease? If so, that is very common for people as they grow older.
