Whipple or no Whipple?
I know we're all different in what we decide is best for us. Just need some comfort knowing my husband might decide to not go further by having the Whipple procedure. I respect his decision if that's what will be. Has anyone decided on not having the procedure. Ty

@tomrennie I love that term Scanxiety! It's now in our vocabulary. Surgeons haven't looked at scans as of yet. They are in hubby's portal ( we get before they read/ of which I feel isn't healthy for us to have first hand before the Doctors. Due to not being doctors & not knowing a lot of the terms ECT. Yet we read & feel it's another inconclusive view of the area of which needs better viewing ,🤔yet shall wait for surgeons input. Seems if it's not 1 thing it's another. Will let you know. Please follow up with us also on your results. 💪🙏

1 ReactionI would definitely go see Dr Evans in Milwaukee,Wisconsin amazing specialist regarding pancreatic cancer. Everywhere said surgery is not possible. He did the surgery and trust him with my life.

2 Reactions@casey1959 I will do so. I see the oncologist late this afternoon. I hope your surgeons give you something positive to move forward with. I think it is a HIPAA thing that you get the results when they are available. If anyone knows differently, please share. Thanks for spelling scanxiety better than I did. Spellcheck kept changing it. I have now added the better spelling to my dictionary.

1 Reaction@tomrennie you helped us by informing that it was an actual condition. I was winging it with the spelling lol . Think we all need to keep a Sense of humor throughout all of this. Keep us posted on your results please. 🙏

1 ReactionGetting through the whipped is a journey in itself . Yet each step in treatment is buying a little more time . Once on the other side of the surgery , next step chemo , it’s all a journey . Get your circle of support in place before trying anything , be it treatment or no, the circle is of utmost importance .

3 Reactions@jadees ty ....yes we do need support. He has a few work mates. Our children & an older grandson. The other 3 are still too young. Doctors are support to a certain extent . Of course not like family or friends. We've gotten 15 months together even if it's been tough. Infections ..Surgeries for liver stents ..Chemo. I'm scared of this Whipple yet things have advanced as far as surgery & recovery. He had the second CT scan due to first wasn't a clear view. Now it seems second wasn't either. Not sure where things are headed. Waiting on surgical teams input. 🙏

3 Reactions@casey1959 I completely agree on the sense of humor. My tests came back with everything mostly stable. I have one mass on my liver that has started to grow a little again into my left portal vein. We need to keep an eye on it, but that's it for now. So all is good. How are you?

1 Reaction@tomrennie I'm sorry my memory has failed me. Your journey has recently just begun if I am correct? Your first scan? No results as of yet on what's the diagnosis? Preying for you. My hubby had a second ( unclear) CT scan. So waiting on surgeons response after they read it.

1 Reaction@casey1959 try not to let the fear take over . It’s difficult , but a positive attitude goes a long way here . Sometimes some help on the positivity is necessary , be it music , meditating , you tube positive videos , excercise and just having someone to vent to , can all be helpful . Our facility gave us a video to explain just what the surgery was about and we both found that helpful

@jadees mentions something I want to second. There are many highly qualified physicians that have put videos on YouTube regarding pancreatic surgery. Dr Truty at Mayo, Dr Evans a”in Wisconsin, Dr Abdalla in Atlanta, and others. Before watching, be sure they are with a National Pancreatic Center of Excellence. These are physicians that do high volume work with pancreatic patients and have many years of experience. I find the more I know the more comfortable I become with any decision about my care. It often requires second opinions. Even when you feel you have the best doctor in your town.
