Whipple or no Whipple?
I know we're all different in what we decide is best for us. Just need some comfort knowing my husband might decide to not go further by having the Whipple procedure. I respect his decision if that's what will be. Has anyone decided on not having the procedure. Ty

I understand your husband deciding not to have the whipple. If I had known all the side effects I would not have it done. I am a 87 year female and it has been 5 months since the surgery. I am in pain almost constantly and no energy and have lost 44 pounds, some before the surgery.

4 ReactionsIt probably will make a difference if he still has his pancrease. I don't so lots of dietary problems and gas.
I would be interested to know if anyone has done Nano-knife instead of Whipple if they were considered a candidate for a Whipple. If so, what were the results.
His tumor is at the head & many blood vessels ECT are very close. This makes this procedure a more extensive surgery for him. We meet with Surgical team soon. Much thought needs to be had. I'm sorry your going through so much post op.

1 Reaction@casey1959 my tumor was also in the head. Dr. SHIRES in Dallas did the whipple on me.
@johnny1955
Was your tumor near blood vessels too?
@monterrey1997 not sure about the blood vessels. It was a complicated surgery and an open surgery. Not laproscopuc.

Yes. Dr. Shires was fantastic. Came to see me every day and actually visited with me. He does lots of these surgeries.
Surgery was done at Texas Health hospital off Walnut Hill in Dallas.
