When Depression "Flares"

Posted by Lyn @pearlbaby7, Mar 23, 2019

I've been having a depression "flare". Along with this swing down I've felt a heaviness in the center of my chest. Do othets have this as well?

Hi – wanted to check in with some of you who had posted about depression flares. Thought that your responses would be helpful to all here in this discussion.

@liz67 – have you experienced a depression "flare"?

@joy7576 – you talked about several physical symptoms you experience when your Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) flares up, like racing heart, frequent urination, heaviness in chest and stomach pains. Have you found anything that helps manage these?

@pearlbaby7 – how are you doing? Are you still experiencing the heaviness in your chest?

@pearlbaby7 No need to regret posting about your fears. It is unsettling when depression returns. Does the anxiety become worse with the return of depression?

For me anxiety gets worse when my depression gets worse, but they are both bad!!!!

My depression is getting worse for some reason and I’m thinking that I should go to the hospital!

@smile what symptoms are you experiencing that you believe that you need medical attention? Are you afraid that you will hurt yourself?

Hi. I think of hurting myself but I promise you that I won’t because it’s not an option just a very dark thought to let someone know that I’m in lots of emotional pain and I can’t make it stop. I have two adult children, a girl who is almost 30 years old and a son who is 27 years old and has his own mental health issues..

@smile– It's terrible to feel so down. I've had a life time of depression. I never wanted to hurt myself and am glad that you won't. It will really only make you feel worse in the long run.
Do you have any idea what triggered your down swing? Are you really feeling that you can't handle this yourself?

@smilie We care here. Like @merpreb said, it's terrible to feel so down. Can you pinpoint what caused these the start of this down slide? Can you put the brakes on that thinking and slow yourself down to a crawl? Are there tools you have used in the past that you could pull out of your closet again for this episode? Perhaps things like gentle exercise, or counseling, or journaling, or some interactive groups? We do not want you are being yourself and please if you are considering that call for help. Don't try to be so strong that you ignore your own safety. We Care.

I’ve suffered from depression since I was 12 years old and now I’m 60 years old. I have medicine and I’m getting professional help. I even have an emergency crisis unit to call, so I’m safe but not feeling well. Thank you for your support z
