What's your experience with Ramelteon?
Can anyone share their experience with Ramelteon, such as dosage, how long taking, did it help with sleep, side effects, etc? I've been taking 75-150mg of Trazodone and 2mg melatonin for a while but it doesn't always work well, so my doctor prescribed 8mg Ramelteon. I afraid to take it because it's one of the hypnotic drugs where you can sleepwalk without knowing it. I've also read it's not very effective helping insomnia. I've had insomnia for 18 months, I think related to fibromyalgia symptoms that started about the same time.

@lizziel1 why. if it worked
@lizjlb 6 mil of ramelteon?
Remeron is a generic for mirtazapine. However, Ramelteon actually works with your body to induce melatonin. It is not habit-forming or controlled. It is not an ssri or an antipsychotic.
Very similar names, though, so I can see the confusion.
We are talking about two completely different medicines.
I've just started 8mg of Ramelteon, and it has really helped my insomnia and ability to actually fall asleep. I feel pretty refreshed and not groggy or hungover the next day. I still don't sleep very long, but I feel more rested. I think it's great so far.

Me too! I didn't sleep for close to a year, and was dismissed by everyone. Studies say that you will eventually sleep; your body makes you. Mine didn't.
I've tried everything except the DORA meds because they are very expensive. Ugh!
Good luck with your sleep journey
@howesgoing. Just want to say... Don't give up on finding something to help you sleep! Have you ever tried over the counter Unisom with active ingredient Doxylamine? Make sure the Unisom has that ingredient.....because there is another Unisom that has ingredient Diphenhydramine. That doesn't work quite as well as the Unisom with ingredient Doxylamine. Otherwise, I'd start trying every sleep med out there that your doctor will let you try. And if you have a good doctor....he or she will let you try just about anything, as long as it doesn't interfere with other meds you take. Some meds work for some people but not others. Just gotta keep trying them until you find one that works for you. Flurazepam works great, but is a benzodiazepine, which alot of doctors refuse to prescribe. Wrong in my opinion......sleep is very underrated and is really very very necessary for a person's overall good health. I take Lorazepam because it's good for sleep and anxiety, which I need help with both. And it works great. Also take Amitriptyline along with it. The combination works great for me. Good luck to you.....and again, don't give up. I just kept going back to my doctor telling him what he prescribed wasn't working, and I needed to try something else.
