What do you guys think could be causing my chest pain ?

Posted by leec1 @leec1, Apr 23, 2020

I have been experiencing chest pains that are persistent and ongoing since January so roughly four months, it first started in January when I woke up one Sunday with aching and sore chest the pain has been persistent and constant ever since. My chest also feels tight and I feel won out easy when I take my daily one hour walk, sometimes the pain gives me the sensation as though I want to cough and sometimes I do splutter, the pain is worse on the left side of the chest around the left pectoral region but spreads all across the chest, sometimes I can push around and cause pain other times I can't, sometimes deep breathing hurts other times it doesn't, there are times when it feels possibly muscular but I haven't done anything at all to injure a muscle also my chest can heavy like its congested or full of something that I've breathed in but I haven't, this feeling is worse after exercise , when I very first wake up the pain doesn't seem to be too bad but after I get out of bed it starts to creep up, I haven't found any type of patten as the pain is there constantly, the only time the pain seems to go is when I'm sleeping and when I very first wake up, I have experienced some palpations here and there such as when I turn over in bed at night or get up after sitting or laying for a while, when I get these feelings my heart increases and beats a lot harder, I have been concerned weather the issue could be heart related or not. I do not smoke and do not drink alcohol, I also only take prescribed medication, I'm 26 years old, male with no family history of heart disease, I am not overweight. Between 2014 and 2016 i had a vast amount of different heart tests and more recently about a month ago some more tests and all were normal.

Well, at the risk of asking an overly obvious question, what do your PCP and/or cardiologist say??

the last time i saw cardiologists was between 2014-2016, they said eventing looked fine, and recently spoke to three GPs since in 2020 who run some tests n didn't think it was my heart but I'm not sure

That would be something a doctor should look at. A heart doctor would be best could be signs of a heart attack is looming just speaking from experience

Hi @leec1 and welcome to Connect. I agree with @adresler and @davej about a call to get a consult. It's no time to guess and important to rule out heart-related causes.

Having said that, chest pains may not necessarily be heart-related.

Chest pains can be related to heart issues, but also to digestive issues, muscle or bone causes, lung issues or even panic attacks. See this article from Mayo Clinic

@leec1 have you ever consulted with a gastroenterologist?

@leec1 That is understandable. Did he offer any other solutions or tests? I am not sure where you are located, but if Mayo Clinic is an option for you, they have experts in diagnosing and treating unexplained chest pain.
You can call one of Mayo Clinic's appointment offices in Minnesota, Arizona and Florida or request an appointment online. Here's the contact information http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63 The appointment coordinators will ask questions to help direct you to the best specialist, either at Mayo or closer to home.

im in the UK, he thinks its possibly inflammation of cartilage around my ribs, in march i had a resting, 24 hour ECG and a chest x ray, everything showed up normal so he was saying after them results its not my heart but im thinking he should of done echo and blood test.

chest pains are usually due to either the heart , lungs, lining, chest bones...they can also be due to acidity so try a gelusil and see what happens...tell them to check for gallstones as well...an echo is a good idea as well as an angiogram...in pakistan we would already tried an anti biotic as we are used to self medication...reduce your walking to half an hour and see if that is helpful...

an x-ray is a good idea and see if your lungs are normal and the heart has a normal size meaning it is not swollen...

REPLY

you could try a few puffs of an asthma inhaler...get a kidney ultrasound scan too...and see if stopping walking for a few days helps...
